How do you make time to work out?

A friend of mine with a two year old told me today, "if it's important enough to you, you'll find time" then she told me some of the ways she made time, which I don't think would work for me.

So, if you manage to make time to work out, when and how do you do it?

 Thanks!

  • 5:00 in the morning, before the boys get up.

  • I didn't manage to find time for it till the boys were about 5 months old. And then I started doing 30 Day Shred (perfect b/c it's nice and short!) during their morning nap. When they dropped to one nap at 19m I started having a much harder time making time for a work out and shower during their nap along with everything else I needed to get done at that time. Right when they turned 2 we finally got a family membership to a gym and that was AWESOME, since I could take them to the childcare there and work out. :) That's been wonderful.

  • I run 3x a week and attend Barre classes 2x a week.  I usually go as soon as my DH gets home.  And your friend is right, it became really important to me, so I had to make myself a priority and DH was completely okay with it.  I usually put the twins to bed before he gets home, so he just has to take care of older DD.

Just peeked at the blog in your siggy. Amazing! So awesome. You and I started at about the same place, but I'm about 15 lbs behind you now. V inspiring!

Thanks!!  Its definitely been a hard journey, but obviously so worth it!!  Congrats to you for losing weight too!!  Every little pound adds up in the end!!

  • It must not be that important to me, because I don't - lol.  I do a TON of walking with the boys.  We take a major walk nearly every day, and pushing nearly 80 lbs of stroller and baby helps!

Another twin mom friend of mine just started going to an exercise class that has free child care - I might have to look into that.

  • I have no idea. It seems like it was so much easier to make time before the twins started walking and my 3 year old was still taking naps. Now I do what I can at night but it's not much. I either go running or walk on my treadmill for a bit. I have to study in the evening too so that makes it more difficult. I have workout DVDs that are great but I turn into a psycho if I'm interrupted during one of them so I haven't done them all Summer.

  • I'm thinking about this, too.  Obviously at first I'll have other priorities, but I definitely want to have a plan in place. DH bought the Insanity DVDs for us to do together and I don't know whether that was a) encouraging/supportive or b) delusional.
  • At three months old I would not worry about it AT ALL.

Give yourself time and worry about it when the babies are older.

  • When the babies turned 1, that is when I really started to get motivated to lose weight.

I started using My Fitness Pal, and cut down calories to 1200 calories/day.  Sometimes I make it, other days I don't.  I lost about 10 lbs in 2 months doing that.

I just started doing couch to 5k last week too.  I get up at 5:15am to do it.  It is kinda nice, because (initially) it only takes 25 minutes, 3x/week.

  • My work out is pushing two babies in the BOB stroller with two dogs up a big hill every morning.  One day when they go to preschool I may join a gym again, but for now the walking is all I can do.
