Looking forward to ditching the diapers? Obviously this will depend on the child's readiness, just wondering what
your plans are at this point. Also, tell us if you have a method in mind. BTDT
Moms perhaps have pearls of wisdom on this topic.[Poll]
I was hoping to start at 18 months, but that requires this kid to be able to like, stand or walk or something I assume. Maybe she will be by that point! I know I was completely out of diapers early (before 2), so I was just kind of hoping to luck into it. But I am not going to push too hard, if she is not ready, then we will just wait.
We have a history of urine disorders in our family (UTI's, bed wetting, etc) and I've read a couple articles about urologists who say that is commonly caused by forcing PTing too early. Forcing it increases their bladder size disproportionately to what their bladder should be for their age. One specific urologist recommended waiting until they are 3 because then they have the cognitive skills to understand when they have the urge to pee and poop, what it means, and act on it. Whereas younger children are more likely to ignore those urges and hold it while they continue playing; causing their bladder to swell and grow in size, etc, etc.

Just like with DD we will wait until DS shows signs of readiness. DD was 18 months when she started using the potty and was fully daytime potty trained well before 2 years old. In general boys are ready later and if that means he's not potty trained until 3 so be it. Either way I hope for it to be at is lead and not have to push him. My parents had six kids. The girls all potty trained by 2 and the boys not until 3. The two that they pushed (one of each) were the hardest to train, but the ones that they let take the lead were done in a matter of a week or two. I'd really like for him to be potty trained by Labor Day after he turns 3 so he can start preschool, though.
I have no idea, I haven't even thought that far ahead.

I'm with Little and Big Pea on this one. We will wait as long as possible! I'd rather she go in a diaper than have to find a public restroom, freak out about how dirty that restroom is, try not to cringe as she touches the seat to hold her little body up, etc. AKA when she's ready and not a moment sooner! :-)

I know the general rule is that girls are ready for PTing earlier than boys. My brother and sister are 2 years apart and my mother actually started PTing my sister at 18 months while she was PTing my 3.5 year old brother.
I don't have a time in mind but I feel like I will know when DS is ready.. he isn't walking yet so it's hard to really think that far ahead! haha I am a SAHM so I am hoping to be able to work with him daily once he is ready and hoping it goes fairly smoothly. I have friends whos kids are 3 and still not potty trained so I am hoping before then! haha My cousins 18 mos old (girl) is just about out of diapers - its amazing how much it varies!

It completely depends on her. DD1 showed an interest at 2y 5mo and was potty trained in less than a month.
I'd like to say we'll start around the same time for DD2, but who knows if she'll be ready sooner or later than that.
You definitely can't push potty training if they aren't ready.
