3rd Trimester

HELP: 39 weeks & constipated =(

As embarrassing as this is to say, I know its common. I'm on day 4 with no relief. Called my Dr. & he suggested a stool softener/MiraLAX. Tried both-nothing, I have also tried walking...especially since I'm due this week. I have tried drinking my weight in water over the past 3 days. I took a chance & not only did I drink a cup of coffee, but I had my husband take me to his favorite buffet...which usually CAUSES me to go...you know. I'm about to punch a hole in the wall. My issue is that I have the urge to go, but baby has completely dropped. With all of the pressure from the stool & baby it's causing a tremendous amount of pain & my legs are stating to go numb. Any advice? =(

  • When all else fails, go for the enema.  It sucks but you will be so happy afterward.

  • The one non-medical intervention that always gets me going is a Fiber One bar.  I am actually afraid to start eating them again b/c I haven't for months and typically it empties me out once I have one little bar.

  • I feel the same pressure but have been having a lot of trouble actually going lately. Yesterday, I stocked up on fruit and ate the shiz out of it. It helped a little, but not complete relief. I guess a little is better than nothing, right? Fiber One bars used to help me, but now all they do is give me gas :( Good luck!

  • I can usually eat cherries by the bag but during pregnancy they become a laxative for me lol Maybe they would work for you too? Or dried apricots?

  • I've heard it isn't safe to take an enema this far along in pregnancy. I'll call my Dr. again on this-because I'm THAT desperate.

  • i had the same issue a few weeks ago and asked the doctor she said take milk of magnesia, she said some people react better to that then other meds. I took it before bed and took it again the next day at dinner time and by the time i was done eating dinner, my issue was gone! Hope you get some relief soon!
  • What about prune juice?

  • I have been taking 200mg of colace every night, eating cherries, dried apricots and drinking a crapload of water to keep things moving for me.  It is working, but took a few days to get the ball rolling.

Good luck...it is such a crappy (pun intended) feeling!

  • I drink a large glass of Plum Sweet juice with miralax in it.  It takes a couple days, but it eventually gets things going.
  • Ask about Mag Citrate too. It's available OTC. I just don't know if it's okay to take now...

  • When you're on the toilet, put your feet on a stool so your knees are elevated.  It helps.  You can read about it here:  https://www.squattypotty.com/Articles.asp?ID=256
  • Try changing your diet for a day or two- fruits and veggies, lentils, yogurt, a bit of brown rice and loads of water. No processed or white foods. Your system will reset itself fairly quickly. Try middle eastern food- it is super tasty and fits the bill.

That being said, in emergencies (like a 4-day delay) if I drink tons of water the day before then have a cup of coffee on an empty stomach it never fails to move things along.....
