Hello, I have been a bumpie for 3 years now (on TTGP; 3T; IF; TTCAL; TTCAL +6). After 2 1/2 years of TTC (4 unmedicated IUI's; 2 rounds of IVF; 2 medicated IUI's - which included 4 c/p's and 1 early m/c) I finally got pregnant with twin boys in January. I was due on October 7th, but was going to be induced by 38 weeks. My boys had other plans and decided to make a surprise entrance last Tuesday morning at 32w 2d.
The short version is that I didn't know I was in labor (wasn't feeling the contractions I guess), but called the OB in the middle of the night when I went to the bathroom and had red spotting. I went in to get checked (I had been in L&D 2 weeks before with brown spotting, got 2 shots and my contractions stopped) and when I got there at 5:25am I was already 4-5 cm and they said they felt a foot. When the Dr got there at 6:00am I was already 8-9 cm. I wasn't feeling most of the contractions (mind you I have a much older DD and have been in labor before and it was completely normal and painful) and wasn't in any pain.
There was not enough time to transfer me to my MFM's care at the hospital with the level III NICU (my OB's deliver at a hospital that only has a level II NICU). My boys were born via emergency c-section at 6:22 - Samuel Joseph and 6:23am - Luca Vincent (so about an hour after I got to the hospital). The NICU team came via helicopter, stabalized the boys and life-flighted them to the other hospital. My OB fought with my insurance all day and was able to get me transferred there that night. I came home Friday evening, but the boys are still in the NICU.
They are doing really well at this point. Samuel was 4 lb.s 5 oz when he was born, of course he lost weight, but is now back up to 4 lbs. 1 oz. Luca was 4 lbs. 10 oz when he was born, went down below 4 and is now back up to 4 lbs. 8 oz. They started on vents, went to cpap, then nose cannulas and are now on room air. They are increasing their feeds twice a day. Luca is up to 30 cc's every 3 hours and Samuel is up to 21 cc's. I have gotten to do kangeroo care with them both for the last couple of days which has been awesome. They are both receiving caffeine for their brady's, Luca's have increased in the last 24 hours, so they might be increasing his caffeine a little.
Those are the basics. I am still learning a lot about this whole process and I am sure I will have lots of questions. Thanks for being here!
