DS started his trial week at daycare yesterday. I knew we'd be in for some adjustments but I want my happy baby back! Yesterday his teacher said he did really well. No crying when i left him, he played in a bunch of toys and on the floor, had his bottle like a champ...but no nap. Now DS is a good sleeper usually so without his naps he's a hot mess. I figured he probably would have a hard time at first since there's new surroundings and people, but how long does this last!?
He was so clingy and crabby when i picked him up it was unbearable. Today I made a point to drop him off before his first nap so that hopefully he'd go right to sleep. He even fell asleep in the car but then daycare called to ask me a question and I asked if he napped and they said no
Why doesn't he just close his eyes!?
Anybody had a similar experience with the transition to daycare? When does it go back to normal? (Just looking for a little reassurance I guess)
Re: Daycare wreaking havoc on naps
This is totally normal. DD took about 3 days to fully adjust. She has always been a sleeping champ and gives me no problems with naps and bedtime. The first day she slept for a total of 15 min. The next day about 45 min. Then by the third day she must have adjusted to the noise and she did just fine.
Now she has been known to take a 3 hour nap on occassion. This week she graduated to the crawler room and I was afraid that it would take her some time to adjust again but I think it's been easier because they have a loose schedule and most of the kids are sleeping around the same time which makes it a little easier I think.
Just hang in there and things will work out just fine!
