MoTriplets: when did you stop working?

When I found out I was having triplets, I told my RE that I had planned on finding another job by the end of October (I travel all over for my current job). She suggested I just stop working completely at that point so I can rest and grow my babies. While I would love to that, I'll only be 19 weeks along. Ideally, I'd love to work as long as I can and I'm just wondering what your experiences are.

Re: MoTriplets: when did you stop working?

  • I have no experience yet, but did ask my MFM yesterday about mandatory bedrest.  He said as long as my cervix looks good, I can work as long as possible.   I have a desk job, so it's not physically demanding.  He believes that bedrest has no direct affect on the health of babies, and could actually produce smaller babies.  The only time it is necessary is when the mother's health is at risk for preterm labor.  I also asked about excercise and he said that gravity (standing, walking, etc) does not cause a cervix to shorten, so I'm able to walk as long as I feel up to it.  However, I'm sure there are a lot of doctors that would disagree with him.

  • I plan on stopping work at 20 weeks.  While I wont put myself on strict rest, I feel like at that point I'll be getting sick of the hour-long commutes each way and the stress involved in my job, and that I'll be better off at home.  GL whatever you decide!

  •  I worked FT in the office (low stress desk job, short commute) until 28 weeks, and then went in 2-3 times a week until 32 weeks when I was admitted to the hospital for pre-e. I could have worked FT until 32 weeks (I wasn't on bedrest or anything) but I was just getting worn out from even my easy job.

  • I worked until 29 weeks after that I was home just taking it easy.  My ob wanted me to go out at 25 but I was fine to keep working.  About three weeks prior to going out for good I would sometimes work from home in the afternoons from the recliner so I could put my feet up.  Good luck!

  • Thanks for all your responses. I guess after 19 weeks it won't be that much longer until I'll be wanting to take time off. Good to know. Maybe I'll try to substitute teach so I can get out of my current situation early...

  • I stopped working around 22-23 weeks, wish I would have stopped around week 20 though...I was so tired and uncomfortable.

  • I'm a teacher and school ended when I was about 17 weeks and I was really glad about the timing.  I usually do summer school but took this summer off, around 23 weeks I noticed a serious change in my energy and abilities so I am glad I had the time off.  When school starts back up I will be about 27 weeks and there is no way I am going back to teach.  I credit a lot of the other triplets mamas... they really are troopers and were able to work pretty far along!
