Car car seat positions

I drive a 2011 Camry, right now LO is RF in a convertible in the middle seat.

Once new baby comes, where does each seat go?

I can't use the middle latch and a passenger/driver latch since there are only 4 latch bars. So who goes where? Infant or toddler on passenger side or infant or toddler on drivers side? Is it just a matter of preference?

Re: Car car seat positions

  • It's a personal preference (at least for me).  I have a van now, but for my first to we had a civic and a passat.  The infant seat went on the drivers side because it was easier to unload the infant seat on the drivers side, and then walk around to the passenger side and get the older one out.  This (IMO) is really important if you are in an area if you park on the street a lot, but not necessarily important elsewhere.  It was also easier at the house because the passenger side of the car is closest to the house (we have a driveway but no garage), I would walk them both out, put the infant seat on the ground next to the passenger door, load and buckle the older one, then walk around to the driver side, click in LO and get myself in.

  • We do my oldest on the driver's side and my youngest on the passenger side. This is because my oldest is the 1st to get out and the last to get in, so this is easiest on me since I can just hop out or in my car door and be on the side I need.

For us it was just a personal preference. It's been this way since day 1. I switched it once and got so messed up. This just works for us.

  • Thanks for the advice!

  • We have a VW Jetta. My oldest is RFing in a convertible behind the driver. The baby is still in the infant seat behind the passenger. We did it this way because it's the only way to fit them both RFing and still let DH drive comfortably without buying a different seat for the baby or a new car, since our infant seat takes up more room than the convertible.

  • We have #1 behind the passenger and #2 behind the driver.  I don't think it really matters, just a preference.
