Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Disgusted with my OB/GYN

Sorry just have to vent - as I've been thinking about this and it's really bothering me. I lost another angel baby (#5) in July and had to have a D&E.   Last week I went to the OB/GYN for the follow-up appt from the D&E and my doctor talked to me and then he types somethings up in his laptop and this doctor gives all their patients a PATIENT PLAN when they leave the office. The receptionist printed it out and handed to me and the first thing I see it says a habitual aborter. That made me feel so sad.....I thought to my self this isn't right they should not put that on there.  I told the receptionist you really shouldn't put that on the Patient Plan like that - it's very upsetting. She said "I'm sorry hon, I will tell the doctor, thank you for the feedback".  I'm like EEWWW feedback - are these people for real - I just lost my fifth angel baby - I'm not taking a FREAKING survey!!!!

Thanks for letting me vent ladies.

Re: Disgusted with my OB/GYN

  • Oh my god that's horrible!!!!  I would find a new OB/GYN if I were you, part of their job as your doctor is to take care of you emotionally as well.....in now way was that doctor doing that!  I'm so sorry for your loss, you'll be in my prayers.

  • Um, wow. How insensitive is THAT. You totally have the right to be angry, and to find a new OB/GYN. Believe me, there are awesome, caring, talented doctors out there ... there is no reason to put up with that!

  • I agree that you should find another OB but not before you are sure to have a concersation with that doc about that comment. He needs to know how that comes across to a patient such as yourself. We nay think they should know better but if they did, we wouldn't be discussing this...

  • The worst part to me is the use of the word "habitual" like you just can't help yourself or something! Gross.

  • I can't believe how insensitive some medical professionals can be. Sorry that you had that experience! If you do decide to go find a new OBGYN I would definitely write a letter/have a conversation so that he understands why so that it does not happen to others!

I find using the terms "abortion"/"aborter" for miscarriages to be very frustrating because "abortion" means something very different culturally.
