Anyone NOT told their glucose results?

I'm new to this board (hi =) ) but I came from another one.  I'm 29 weeks but took my glucose test last week....

He said if he doesn't call me back then that means I passed.  So clearly, I passed.  But I noticed a lot of you on here and the other board I'm on...... women are told their actual gluccose results.  I just would like to know if I was close to the 135/140 passing/failing line..... am I the only one who wasn't told their results?

Re: Anyone NOT told their glucose results?

  • the only reason I know mine is because I called and asked. I assumed no news was good news, but in my case I did not pass my 1 hour test even though I didn't hear anything for 3 days afterward. I specifically asked for my numbers when they told me I failed the first one.

Shoot.  I'm sure he would've called me if I failed though; he's pretty good on his word.  But I'm just going to call tomorrow anyway just to see if they'll give me the numbers

  • No, I was simply told I passed the test and everything came back fine. It was the same with my blood word for birth defects. I didn't get the results of 1 out of 5000 or whatever like everyone else got, I just got a "you're good to go" answer. I don't really think the numbers are important.. they'd probably just cause more stress than anything (aka if you just passed the glucose test by like 2 points, you constantly stress you're going to put yourself over). Sometimes ignorance is bliss.

  • My Dr said no news is good news, but will tell me my results at the next appointment.

  • That's probably what I would've done too if it was that close.  I just didn't know if it was normal for him not to disclose the numbers to me.

But yeah the same was for me with the birth defects results and other things I was checked for throughout pregnancy.  Either a "will call if something isn't normal" or a "everything came back great".

  • I was never told my exact numbers. I was just told that I had failed.

  • I had my test last Tuesday, and I have not received a phone call yet, so I just assume that no news is good news.  I will ask my doctor about the results at my appointment next week though.

  • Nah, nobody called me either, and I'm gonna go with the whole "no news is good news" thing too. I could call, but then I'd have to wait for someone to call me back, and it just seems more trouble than its worth at this point. I'll get my results at my next appointment. I'm just glad I don't have a problem, because boy did drinking that syrupy junk make me feel crappy.

  • I dont know either, but Im off to my OB today hopefully they will tell me !! UGH
  • Most groups do literally hundreds of tests a month, so calling everyone would be a nightmare.  Or they would have to hire someone just to call with results, which means your costs would go up, hence the "no news is good news."

Most OBs will go over the results at the next appointment, and they have to give you the results if you ask.  I also get a printout after each appointment of all the results from all tests ordered since my last appointment.  That seems to be the norm.

  • My office is another of the "no news is good news" office. The only reason I knew my number from the 1 hour is because I failed it and had to do the 2 hour.

Really, the only thing you need to know is pass or fail. I prefer not to know the specifics because I know that I'm the type of person to overanalyze any "questionable" result.

  • I haven't heard anything.  With my doc's new office, they go by the "no news is good news" rule and I hate it!  When she was in a private practice, her nurses called no matter what the results were.  They also did "check-in" calls for things (I was anemic during my last pregnancy and they told me to do xyz and I should start feeling better in a few days.  They called the following week to see how I was doing.)  I go in next week and should get my glucose results and my bloodwork results.

  • With mine no one called me either. They had also forgot to mention at my test that they wouldn't call if I passed. Well I had to call back to schedule my next couple of appointments a couple days later, so while I had them on the phone I asked about my results. I had passed, which is why they didn't call, and the nurse gave me my number results. She said the doctor would have just told me the final results at the next appointment since I had passed. So I guess with my doctor, they would have told me the numbers either way, it is just a matter of when.

  • My doc didn't tell me the numbers when I had my test for DS#1.  I think if it would have been borderline, he would have told me.  I was not concerned at all, so I didn't ask for the actual numbers, but I have asked for specifics for other test results and have always been given them with no questions asked.

I go for my 1hr GTT tomorrow am and I don't expect to hear anything until my next appt Sep 11.  If I fail, I imagine they will call me to arrange the 3hr, but I am going to pass(Stick out tongue power of positive thinking), so that means the doc will just confirm the pass at my 28w appt.
