So we are in the process of finishing up DD?s big girl room and I am thinking we should put locks on drawers within her reach because she loves to open and close drawers and I am concerned about her trying to climb them or having them close on her finger. Has anyone ever used the adhesive locks? I have seen mixed reviews online and part of me wonders if the manufacturer is writing the good reviews because I looked at three sites and all had them at around three and the good reviews on some sites were a little over the top. I am trying to avoid drilling into her new drawers or my new kitchen cabinets if at all possible. Anything you can recommend would be appreciated. Here is a link to what I am talking about thanks. https://www.diapers.com/p/kidco-adhesive-mount-cabinet-drawer-lock-9879
Re: Drawer locks
We thought about this when DD1 got her big girl room at 20 months and decided against it. All of her furniture is anchored to the wall so if she ever did climb (she hasn't, and she's a super tom boy) nothing would fall on her. As for fingers getting stuck this happened twice before she started closing them really carefully. There has been days when I go into her room and there's clothes everywhere, but she helps clean up and I explain how her clothes belong in her drawers. Honestly the novelty of being able to take her clothes out and play in the drawers wore off quickly. I felt it was a big hassle and it was more important to teach her the responsibility of keeping her room tidy.
But if you must get drawer locks I highly recommend the Safety 1st adjustable multi purpose straps. They're easier for you to use, and she won't be able to get the drawer open at all, with the one you posted she can open them just enough to get fingers stuck (we had some like those in the bathroom).
