Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Nightmares and Resisting the Car Seat!

We will never know until our LO begins talking fluently but here lately he has been waking up in the middle of the night screaming like someone was after him! Could he be having some kind of baby nightmare? We think he might be hungry and go get him a bottle and he'll take 2 sips and push it away. Now he is 10 months old and has his 2 bottom teeth fully out and his 2 top teeth are just now breaking the gum line so its possible he is in pain from teething. Talk about a wild sleeper, he is all over the place in his crib and can't seem to ever get comfortable which again will cause him to go into a crying fit, not all the time but enough! There are other times when he'll sleep all night and only get up once. So it varies..

Also here lately our LO has been putting up a fight when we go to put him in the car seat! He will completely stretch out and lock his legs so you can't get him in there! We have the Chicco Keyfit seat. He's been riding in that seat since birth, and we don't know if he is just getting tired of being confined to that seat or if we need to look into getting maybe a larger seat for him. Now oddly enough, once we get him in the seat, he is fine!

On the side of the seat there is a label that says we can use it for babies weighing up to 20lbs which our LO is right now. The law in Delaware from what I understand, says babies have to remain in rear facing seats up till they are 2 years old. I could be wrong but I could have sworn I read that at the hospital. If that is the case, I guess well have to try and find a bigger rear facing seat that can handle a baby weighing more than 20lbs or something and maybe he won't get so cranky when we put him in there.

Have you seen anything like what I am describing with either the nightmares or car seat issues?

Re: Nightmares and Resisting the Car Seat!

  • he is having night terrors. never pick him up while lhe hi doing this he could harm himself or you. make sure he is safe and not thrashing into the crib. if you pick him up it will disorient him and make him thrash more. we went through this with my son. night terrors usually happen an hour and half after they go to sleep and then again between 12am and 3am. Also your son he is sleeping right through this he will never know this happened to him.  if he does wake up after a night terror cuddle him but usually they stay asleep. as far as the carseat issue is he in a carrier or a convertible car seat?  if he in a carrier he may be ready to sit up and see the world. it maybe time for a convertible carseat. gl

  • Get a convertible seat and keep it rear facing. We switched DS a few months ago, because he outgrew his carrier. He still fights going in sometimes, then settles down. I figure he just complaining and testing to see if I will give in.

  • We have a carrier. Okay I will consider the convertible seat option then and see if that helps. One thing I will say is he fights less with us when putting him in his stroller so you all could be on to something! LOL!
