Bath questions

Everyone talks about giving LO a bath, but I haven't seen much description from others as to how you do it. Do you bathe LO in a baby tub, the sink, or what? Also, is your LO submerged in water at all? We still bathe DS in a Safety 1st tub on the bathroom counter, with the water dripping out into the sink. He's not submerged in the water at all yet, but I'm wondering if it will be more enjoyable for him if he was. He'd probably stay warmer. We do it on the sink counter so that we can both stand to clean LO.

Please describe your bath setup!

Re: Bath questions

  • DD is in her baby tub w/ mesh sling that keeps her mostly out of the water... the baby tub is laid in the main bathtubshe can't sit up yet, so I'm not going to immerse her yet...She still likes kicking her feet and making a splash though!

  • Baby tub w/ sling over the kitchen sink. He's about half immersed, but until he can sit upright, we won't do full immersion. I likes kicking the water and we keep a washcloth over his torso so he stays warm in the bath.
  • I have a baby tub that converts to a recline position, so she sits out of the water at a 30 degree angle. The water covers half of her belly in the front and goes part of the way up her back.

She LOVES bathtime now and it's absolutely hysterical. She splashes the whole time and tries to kick the water out. Her little legs slip and slide easily around the bottom of the plastic tub so she can really get them moving, and she's so pleased with herself.

  • We go all in. DH and I are both SCUBA divers, so LO is a fish too!

We just have a bath sponge that goes in the bottom of the tub. We put the water about 3 inches deep, which once she's in, it stays right behind her ears so we're not drowning her. She likes to splash a little, and she loves just laying in the tub. The water in her ears (when she turns her head) is not an issue for her.

  • DD has a mesh sling that goes in our big tub. She sits on an incline, and we fill the tub up so it is about half way up her back and just to her belly button. Then to help keep her warm, we put a washcloth on the rest of her tummy and keep it wet with warm water. Once we are done scrubbing her and needs rinsed off, we pick her up and lay her flat in the water (DH holds onto her) so that just her face is out of the water. She loves that.

  • We either do the baby bathtub in our big garden tub while taking a bath with DD or we have found that showers are just easier. One of us holds while the other washes. Don't know if it is a coincidence, but we started showers early with DD and now she loves them. Makes it much easier when I am by myself because I can just pop her in the shower with me.

  • I use a sling type holder in the regular tub, with water up to about his waist.

He seems to really enjoy this setup.

  • I bathe him right in the tub. I do have a cushion that I put down that suctions to the tub, fill with a few inches of water, and let him splash up a storm. I've been doing it like this since the umbilical cord fell off. I tried once in the sink, but it was way too slippery for me (and ahem...there are usually dishes to be moved, etc.). DS loves it!

This is us exactly. DD has never really liked baths and would cry a lot, but she LOVES the shower. I hop in and wash my hair, then DH brings her in with him after. He hands her to me and gets washed up, then washes her. I rinse her off while he gets dried off, then he takes her and dries her while I rinse out my conditioner. Whole family washed in about 20-30 mins! :)

  • We have an elevated bathtub thing that goes in our tub (or anywhere). The mini tub goes on a step so it's raised, and then there's a soft thing LO lays in to keep her inclined and not submerged. The water comes up to about her belly button and she kicks around! I wash her and then pour water over her to rinse.

I'm loving some of these other ideas, I would never have thought of using the shower but why not!? I also like some of the setups where LO can be submerged more. I'm looking forward to when I can lose the incline and submerge her more, I think she'll really enjoy that!

  • DD has a little tub that we put in our bathtub, and we bought this contraption that helps her sit up in it - https://www.amazon.com/PRI-Infant-Bath-Seat-White/dp/B000BXJZDY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1345600095&sr=8-3&keywords=bathtub+insert

We put a towel on the insert to make it more comfortable, and fill the tub up so that the water almost covers her belly. We usually soak a sponge and squeeze it over any parts that are not in the warm water the entire time.

DD really likes her tub, but she is starting to outgrow the insert! I just hope that she can more or less sit by herself by the time that we have to take it out.

She did take a bath with DH in our tub once, and was fine after we realized that we needed to keep a hand under her back. Before that, we had her kind of floating (obviously while being held), and she was completely freaking out. I guess she felt unsupported that way and got scared!

  • Thanks y'all! I might rearrange our setup, I would love to see LO more submerged to see if he likes splashing around like many of yours do!

  • I have a baby tub I use.  Right now I am still using the sling that comes with it.  I think he will weigh too much for it soon.  When that comes out the tub has an incline I will lay him on.  Right now the water comes up to his butt so that is submerged as well as his back.  He likes his bath so I will start filling it fuller soon.  I put it on the bathroom counter so no bending over.  Bathtime is very quick!

  • We have the Eurotub, and we just put it in our regular bathtub, and bathe him there. The inside of the tub is molded plastic at an incline, so he lays in there on the incline and the water goes mostly up his back. Some of his belly is above water, and his arms, chest, neck and head are as well obviously. He absolutely loves it, and kicks and splashes like crazy!

  • Right now we have a baby tub that fits in the kitchen sink.  They are using the side that is at an incline and water goes about up to their butts.  O loves it and splashes like a crazy man but A just kind of is indifferent.  We just bought a bath seat from safety first at a 2nd hand store and I am hoping to find another one used so I can put them both in the regular tub together soon.

  • We use an infant tub with the mesh sling on the kitchen table.  I put one of our bath towels folded beside it so when I get her out she lays on that and I cover her with her towel.  The mesh sling was wet one day last week so I gave her one without it and she kicked and splashed and had so much fun.  So now we let her lay against the incline, and there is a little hump on the bottom of the tub that keeps her bottom from slipping.  We put one 2 qt pitcher of water into the tub and that is the perfect amount for a bath.  I use one of our wash clothes and keep wetting it and putting it on her tummy to keep her warm.
