Powder formula question

I BF and DD gets 4oz bottles at daycare. I pump anywhere from 3-4oz each time, so on the times that I pump 3oz, I supplement with formula.

We have the tubs of powdered formula which says that it should not be used after being open for a month. However, I don't use nearly half of that because I only supplement an ounce or two a few times a week.

Is there a way to keep the powder "good" longer? It just seems like such a waste when after 30 days, I'm not even half way through the tub.

Re: Powder formula question

  • Have you thought about buying the smaller cans? They're cheaper than the tubs and if you're only using such a small amount, they would probably be your best option.

  • We got some as a gift and some when I was supplementing more. We have more than we'll ever use and plan on giving some away. I guess I can give all the large tubs away and buy smaller cans, but I honestly don't think we'll use the whole can either.

  • Would the single-serve packets be a better idea for you? They are more expensive since they're packaged for convenience, but if you're only needing a few oz a day they might be a good option. I believe they come in 4oz (two scoop) portions.
