Babies: 9 - 12 Months

XP: Early Risers Nap Schedule? Help!

For those of you w LO's who wake around 5, what time are the naps throughout the day?

I'm feeling lost...and impatient b/c it seems we are in a very unpredictable phase and I just have no idea what to do anymore in terms of what time to put him down!

He used to sleep every two hours, but now he's dropped his late afternoon nap and struggles with the first nap at 7 am after waking up at 5. He struggles as he often has to poop around that time.  So today and a few other days I keep him up from 5 to 8:15 or so and then put him down. But his nap was only 30 min. Is that the norm?

He's just about 9 mths old so I know 2 naps is about right but when if they rise so early? Please do share your schedules!

(PS we do leave him the crib 15 min or so when he first wakes for the day, but he usually won't last longer w/o crying as he wakes with a poop).

Re: XP: Early Risers Nap Schedule? Help!

  • Around 8-9 months we moved to a two nap schedule and there were a few very tired days but in the end it has worked well.  ETA: I do naps around the same time regardless of wake up time and this works well for us.

DD has a perhaps unusual tolerance for a longer awake time in the morning so her schedule for last 3 plus months is:

    Wake up 5:30 / 6am (occasionally 5am)

First nap 9:30 am (around 9 months it was 9:00am and has slowly shifted a bit later).  She naps an hour or a bit longer.

Second nap 1:30 (or 2pm if she isn't seeming cranky tired). She naps an hour or a bit longer.

When she wakes before 6am we leave her till at least 6 (longer if she isn't crying).

  • DS was waking really early, and taking a nap about an hour later. It lasted a few weeks and now he and I have figured out he just wants to nurse, then go back to sleep.

  • My LO has to get up at 6 on the weekdays. She takes a cat nap around 9 for about 30 minutes.  She then takes a full nap from 12-2.  She has been doing this for months.  She goes to bed at 7.
