Should we start potty training soon?

So, my twin boys will be 2 on 9/19...and their vocabulary has exploded in the last 4 weeks. Nehemiah has started recognizing when he bm's in his diaper or toots. When he does this he will say "I poop" and touch his backside with his hand. Nathan says "I poop" but usually only if asked "did you poop?" they have both begun to take disposable diapers off when they have them on at night and try to make themselves pee (they think it's hilarious trying to get them ready for bed!) With the cloth, they are tryign to take them off as well, but not nearly as successful. I have done some reading and I know that the ability to pull their own pants up and to tell you when they go, are a few signs of readiness to PT. Any suggestions from other moms who have potty trained their LO's....boys specifically? Should I keep watching and encouraging to tell me when they go? Or should I begin trying to PT?
God gave me a double portion for my inheritance with my little Mighty men :) 9/19/10 Baby A born at 1:47 am 6lbs 14oz, 20.5inches long. Baby B born at 3:20 am 6lbs 6oz, 19.5inches long. My double blessing!:)

Re: Should we start potty training soon?

  • I'm far from an expert, but it sounds like your boys are probably ready to get started, even if it's just gradually at this point. You could get a couple of potty chairs (if you haven't already) and start talking about what they're for, see how your boys respond, and go from there.

We just started officially potty training over the last week or so and it's gone much better with my boy than my girl.  That didn't surprise me though because he was much happier to sit on the potty bare-bottomed when we were just getting them used to the chairs.  As I suspected, that was a pretty clear indicator of how this was going to go at this point.
