1st Trimester

When did you, or when will you buy your first maternity outfit?

I ask this because of how bloated I have been I didnt want to spend more money on another pair of Jeans that wont fit in this next month, So during shopping on Black Friday we were shopping in delaware outlets and came across a maternity shop. My MIL insisted we stop in to look.

I wound up buying a pair of maternity jeans and a really really cute shirt that will perfectly hide anything for the holidays!

MIL insisted she pay for my first outfit so I wasnt going to argue with her.

I am wearing them today and they are SOOOOOO comfortable. Much better than squeezing into a pair of tight jeans.

Once the bloat goes down I am sure Ill go back to my jeans but When do you plan on shopping?

Re: When did you, or when will you buy your first maternity outfit?

  • I was 18 weeks before shopping/wearing maternity clothes.  I used a bellaband from about 12 weeks until 18 weeks.

  • My DH bought me a few pieces for my birthday (week before BFP) just for "luck" and I've ordered a few pair of pants to have ready to go.  I also have a dress, but it is just empire-waisted, so it is much like many of my summer non-mat. dresses I wear all the time.  This one just happened to come from the mat. section.
  • I had bought a pair of maternity jeans last year before my m/c never wore them, but they were only $4 on sale!!! I couldn't pass them up, and yesterday I bought a really pretty black dressy shirt at Target for $5. lol I'm cheap! I wear the jeans all the time, just because I don't want to deal with trying to fit into jeans that half way through the day hurt because of bloat.

  • I've already bought a couple pairs of pants at Gap, and I just placed another order w/ Gap last night for some pants and sweaters. I'm not in maternity clothes yet, but I want to be prepared when the time comes! I've also noticed most stores that have maternity (Gap, Old Navy) only have 1-2 racks, the online selection is much better.
  • I've actually already bought a couple of maternity shirts at Target. I wanted to see if they still had leftover summer stuff on clearance, because I knew I could get it super cheap. Luckily, they did, and you can't beat cute maternity shirts for $6!! I just figured the more summer stuff I can buy now while it's on clearance, the less I have to buy when I actually need it and it's full price.

  • I was pregnant at this exact time last year so I don't plan on buying anything new, just using my old clothes when I need them. Last time I was in maternity at 8 weeks (was expecting twins) but now I don't think I'll need them for a while yet.
    *** It's funny because I'm fat ***
  • I have been in mat jeans since 8/9 weeks, it depends on your body type and how small you were to begin with.  I was super bloated early, and couldn't get my regular jeans on.  Just do what you need to do to be comfy, and don't worry about anyone else!!

  • My "fat" clothes are still fitting me ok, but it's a maternity bra I need to invest in ASAP!

  • I bought maternity clothes at 9 weeks.  I didn't wear them for another week but I really just couldn't button and zip over the bloat anymore.  It's too uncomfortable.  I thought about buying regular clothes in just a size up but it's such a waste of money.  My maternity clothes are big and I could probably have used the band instead but I am all about comfort.  Go for it!  Stretchy waiste bands rock!!!!!
  • I haven't bought anything yet, nor do I have plans for a certain start date. The cold weather here makes it easy to walk around with my jeans unbuttoned on days I'm bloated (under sweatshirts/sweaters), so I just do that. I definitely wouldn't buy anything until after we tell people at Christmas, I wouldn't want to get called out because of my pants.?

I'm wearing a bella band today.  These pants were on the snug side before pregnancy.  Now?  Forget it.  No way they are closing!

  • I bought my first pair of maternity jeans the week of Thanksgiving and absolutly love them. They came in very handy on Thanksgiving.
  • I haven't gone shopping yet for maternity clothes. I have one pair of work pants that I can still button and my jeans are still fitting ok if I use a hairband around the button. I'm so small that I don't think maternity pants will fit in the butt and thighs.

I did get a couple of hand me down shirts from a friend today and they are really cute!

I did the exact same thing! Summer stuff is also cheap online at motherhood maternity.

I'm only 7 weeks and have started wearing a bella band just for the bloat. It's AWESOME with jeans. Who knew such a small piece of fabric could make such a huge difference!

  • Like some of the PP have said, I have bought (and MIL has bought) some items that we were able to pick up on the clearance racks.. I have tried the bella band and was not a fan, so I have already wore a pair of mat. dockers (9.99!). I know it's early, but I don't care! They are comfortable!

  • I have one pair of pants that are still big on me for work. And another pair that are tight. I need to begin to look for maternity pants because I am beginning to need them. I have bought myself a maternity jacket though and I love it!

  • With DS I was in maternity around 12 weeks.  This time, it's going to be sooner.  My bloat is TERRIBLE this time.  I don't want to tell work yet though so I am holding out until at least after Christmas.  I live in my yoga pants at home.

Buying regular pants one size up isn't a bad idea.  Those came in handy during the transition from maternity clothes back to reg clothes after the baby was born.

  • I tried on maternity today, but it all was huge on me. I couldn't get enough nerve to buy it. I really need some pants soon, because my jeans are the only things fitting me (without using the rubberband trick) and I can't wear jeans everyday. I think I will give in to the maternity clothes sometime after Christmas.
