June 2012 Moms

so now that things have settled...

So now that you've gotten into a routine with your LO, how are you all feeling? What are some fun things that have happened? Any small things your LO does that just makes you smile everytime??

I have to say that after going through post partum, and dealing with a pre-diagnosed reflux baby, I'm finally really enjoying my little bundle of smiles. We're on a pretty good routine. I can definitely tell when she's hungry, tired, wants to play. All the signals are starting to come together, and we're really a great team.

Re: so now that things have settled...

  • I'm feeling so much better than in the first 4-6 weeks! I didn't have PPD, but I had the blues for a while and it was tough.
DD is a happier baby too, and gripe water more or less eliminated her witching hours.

I'm still looking forward to when she gets a little older and can do more, just because I think it would make her happier - for example, once she can roll over, she won't get so frustrated about not wanting to lie on her back anymore.
I'm also looking forward to her being on a bit more of a schedule - right now she can only stay awake for about an hour between naps, but her nap lengths are completely unpredictable (which makes it hard to plan activities and outings).

I love how she talks to me and that we can have 'conversations', how happy her mobile makes her, and that every once in a while she greets me with a smile when we wake up in the morning.

Our relationship is SO much better now :D

  • Heh... this is one for our memory book.

Back story: DH and I are both Army vets. He was a Green Beret for 7 years, I'm still in. Stepson is a Ranger. So we're a pretty big military family.

Nicholas' pediatrician, come to find out, is a retired Air Force general. The day we brought Nick in for his first appointment, the doc was in his dress blues. We get Nick stripped down, etc, and the doc proceeds to check him out and open his diaper to check his circumcision. Nick peed all over him.

Our month old son.. just peed on a general...

    I about died.

But seriously, he's the sweetest little thing ever. I absolutely love watching him when he sleeps, and the tiny sounds he makes are adorable. And dear god, when this child is hungry, he makes it KNOWN. Get a bottle even remotely near his face, his mouth is wide open and he shakes his head back and forth. He's like a little bird! We're trying to get it on camera, but no luck yet.

  • I'm feeling a lot better! I was so tired and frustrated in the first few weeks trying to manage three kiddos. But now the kids love that he smiles and laughs at them and makes funny talking noises. He nurses better and takes longer breaks between eating. He has been STTN from about 9-6 so my husband and I have been able to catch up and watch a few movies on the weekends. We're going to take a little vacation now that things are getting into place.

LOs newest trick is scooting backwards while I'm changing diapers. Looking forward to the crawl away while changing, lol.

  • I'm feeling great! I haven't quite come to terms with my new body but I just got a haircut Saturday and am going shopping for some new clothes tomorrow. I'm hoping I'll feel a bit more comfortable after that.

We haven't had anything really thrilling happen, but I just melt with every sweet, gummy smile. I love that DS is cooing and we have these little conversations together. I especially love seeing DS give me these pleasant little smiles as I'm swaddling him for his nap.

I also love that I can see some personality coming out. I just love him! I try so hard to really be present in every moment, to soak in every second of my time with DS. I'm so lucky to have a year off, but I feel like it won't be long enough! DH and I have talked about me staying home for good but we won't make a decision until maybe around 8-10 months so I can let work know.

His "gummy smile " is my favorite too...I will be sad when to see a mouth full of teeth just because I know he's growing too fast...I love smelling him and watching him sleep...or how he makes eye contact while nursing and smiles at me, spitting the nipple out so he can practice talking....the best moments in life!

  • We're doing really well. I wouldn't say we really have a great routine because she fights sleep during the day like a champ.  I got about a week of really good naps out of her, and we were just getting a routine down, and now it's blown to sh!t again. Everything that worked for that week (swaddling, white noise, etc) no longer works. She slept for a grand total of an hour yesterday, all in short cat naps),between waking up in the morning and going down for the night. I can't seem to find THE thing that works, and it's getting frustrating.

However, even with the lack of sleep, she's a  really content baby. I could watch her baby smile and "talk" to me all day long. It melts me.

  • I love bath time, DD enjoys it so much. I also love when she smiles to me or to the ceiling fan, stuffed animals, etc. She talks to me and I can see her personality shine through.

It makes all the scares, frustrations and hardships a lot lighter.

  • I'm feeling great where LO is concerned. He's a very predictable baby and happily follows the EASY routine. My biggest problem is DD. She's 3 1/2 and a handful! I know she's craving extra attention right now, but it's got to the point where DH and I can't talk without her constant interrupting or spend time with LO without her trying to take our attention away. I've decided to go part-time and work from home, so I'm essentially a SAHM now and DD won't let me do ANYTHING around the house. Every day there's a tantrum over something. She's also waking up in the night more often than LO. Sigh.

  • I have to agree with pp about settling into a routine.  We also try to follow the EASY routine, and for the most part it works.  And LO has been sleeping at least 7-8 hour stretches at night.  Some days he cat naps, others he will have a small morning nap, a 2-3 hour early afternoon nap, and one or two late afternoon/early evening shorter naps before going down for the night by 930.

When he is awake I enjoy every second with him.  His gummy smiles are truly the highlight of my day, and I, too, love our "conversations".  We sing Old MacDonald often, and he "sings" along, cooing and smiling.  He is, for the most part, an easy baby and cries only when he is tired or hungry.  I have loved watching him grow and change over the past 11 weeks.  I have 3 more months home with him before heading back to work after Thanksgiving.  I plan on enjoying every moment!  <3
