Mine is sitting up - but not totally unassisted. Still wobbles. She babbles and laughs and has two teeth. She is not crawling yet. She does the super man where she lays on her tummy and flails her arms and legs but doesn't move. She's eating 2 meals a day for solids and we're trying to add a third (per pedi recommendation), but I am having a hard time finding time in the morning to feed her breakfast as a working momma.
She's napping twice during the day for two hours each from 8-10a and from 1-3p. She goes to sleep around 730pm and still wakes at 330am to get fed. We tried to cut the night feeding but it turned into a nightmare for us. So I'm back to feeding her.
She loves her exersaucer and floor time. I need to find her some good new toys to play with.
Now, tell me about your six month old!
Re: What is your six month old doing?
My six month old sits unassisted, and can lean to grab objects and then right herself. She can roll from back to belly, but not belly to back. She doesn't crawl, but she can spin herself, which is useful for keeping an eye on the dog when he's trying to get away from her.
She started solids on Sunday. She likes the idea of food, but not so much the taste or texture. She doesn't have any teeth. She drools constantly. She likes to "talk" to her toys, play with her paci, pass it from hand to hand, try to put it in her mouth. She even got it in there correctly yesterday! She loves the word "kisses" and the sound "ggggg", like in giggles, and her latest favorite is when Daddy helps her chase the dog.
Natalie loves her jumper, too! We put her in it every morning so I can make breakfast. She loves hitting the buttons to play music and my DH, silly daddy that he is, will start dancing around the kitchen for her. When she's not in her jumper, she's on the ground doing the worm as she figures out this whole crawling thing and practicing sitting up by herself. She has just mastered getting herself into the sitting position on her own, though only for a minute or two before falling down.
We go to bed between 9p and 10p and usually wake up around 7am. This morning, we woke up at 6am, but I really hope this is a trend we don't follow. Naptimes are usually at 9:30am and 2pm with the occasional 5-6p snooze. We still wake up several times a night, but once because DH wakes her up when he comes to bed and then to eat in the middle of the night. I'm also considering getting her into her own room because I also think she would sleep MUCH better without hearing us all night long.
The best thing so far is hearing her babble and giggle. She says, "mamamama" and "babababababa" and whenever I kiss her cheeks, she starts to giggle. Ah, I'm loving my little 6mo! Lately I've been wanting to savor every precious moment with her. Even bedtime has been a bittersweet!
J sits up unassisted very well, and has learned to lean over to grab things, and to get from that position all the way to his tummy- although he can't get back up again, which causes no end of frustration. He scoots on his belly backwards and in circles, but not really forwards yet. He can hold the crawling position for a decent amount of time, but can't move that way, yet.
He is eating 2 meals of solids a day, and we are about to add a third. He still nurses 5-6 times a day. We are also planning on trying water in a sippy cup this week, at the pedi's suggestion. He has a whopping 5 teeth, with the 6th one ready to come in any day now.
Most days, J naps three times- two longer naps that are 1.5 hours or more, and one shorter nap that is about an hour. Occasionally we miss the third nap, and just have slightly earlier bedtime. He goes to sleep around 9, and gets up between 6:30 and 8. About half of the time he sleeps straight through to 6 or 7, but the other half of the time he gets up between 4 and 5, and goes back to sleep for 2 or 3 hours.
He loves the jumperoo and his puzzle mat, and toys with buttons (that you push, not like buttons on clothes). His favorite, though, is a little stuffed Eyeore that jingles when you shake it, which we have attached to the teething ring clip (it's a paci clip, but he never took a paci, so we put teething rings on it instead). He likes to swing it around and hit it against everything.
My six month old sits unassisted, and she can go from lying to sitting very well. She is army crawling, but not too much on her hands and knees; although I think it's her preference to do it this way. She can pull up to standing very well and she rolls both ways.
She's started solids, but she doesn't care for purees that much. She much rather chew her food, which would be okay if I hadn't made a months worth of purees already. We don't do solids daily, only when it works with our schedule. She doesn't seem to mind one way or the other.
She naps from 9-10:30a and from 1:30 - 3:30p on a good day and goes to sleep around 7-7:30pm. Some days she sleeps through the night, sometimes she's up twice a night.
She loves to scream when she playing and she loves to say gah gah gah.
DD is a week away from being six months, but I'll chime in anyway.
She is not sleeping through the night, and has no teeth yet, but I'm sure she's teething and will have some VERY soon. She's not crawling yet, but she can roll back and forth, and get up on all fours. She is so close to crawling, and can sometimes launch herself foward... just has to figure out those knees!
She babbles and lets out loud playful screams. She also loves to jump in the jumperoo. She's not one for pacifiers, however, she will use them as teething toys and just chew all over them. She can use both hands. She will play with a toy in one hand, while eating a rice cracker in the other. She can pick up rice crackers, and she can get them in her mouth and completely out of her hands unassisted. She is ticklish on her ribs and laughs up a storm whenever tickled.
She also does her "pick me up" arms, and has reactions to things like taking toys away, or switching toys when she doesn't want to.
She will have two to three naps during the day. Usually a long one 1.5-3 hours in the morning, then two smaller naps in the afternoon.
LOVE THIS POST!! What a great idea to share!!
DD is sitting unassisted most of the time (depending on the toy she is playing with). She can lean and grab objects. She laughs when you kiss her or tickle her arms and cheeks. Babbles a lot, has great eye contact with others. Smiles constantly. She can do the superman while on her belly, can scoot backwards on her belly, and turn in circles on her belly. She can also flip from belly to back unassisted and with the slightest nudge flips from back to belly. Loves to suck on her toes and look at things in her hands like paci or toys.
Eats three solid meals a day and LOVES it. She naps in the morning and after lunch (this one being the longest nap of one half hours). Goes to bed around 8:00-8:30 after last feeding. Sleeps through the night but sometimes wakes up squirming for paci in crib. She has two teeth and sometimes sleeps worse Han other nights because of the teething.
Loves floor mats, exersaucer, jumperoo, and her activity center.
Adam sits unassisted, but sometimes topples over still so I don't like to leave him sitting up with out me next to him just in case. He's been trying to crawl forward, when he gets on his hands and knees he rocks and looks like he's about to do a frog leap, but he hasn't figured out how to go forward yet. He goes backwards and sideways but travels a long distance in a short period of time! He likes to chew on everything. Has his two bottom front teeth. Eats cereal like a champion but doesn't show much of an interest in purees. He loves bubble baths and would probably play all night if I let him.
He still isn't STTN, but at 6 months I'm going to make more of an effort to get him there. He takes two to three naps a day, varying between 40 minutes to two hours.
He talks a lot. It's really cute. Loves to be tickled and nibbled on. Likes it when I laugh like a maniac. Just now starting to get used to his grandma.
Oh, and he loves water bottles! He goes bonkers every time I get one for myself, so I must share it with him. He gets mad when I take things away from him that he wants to chew on and play with.
My Colton...Growing up so fast!
And Coralee, his baby sister...On the way!
AJ is sitting up mostly on his own. If he gets too excited or tries to look up and around he'll fall over. He won't lean too much to get at toys. He'll reach for them and if he cant reach far enough he stops trying. He's starting to pull up on his hands during tummy time, so I think our days are numbered before we have a crawler! He rolls back and forth and has recently started rolling himself on his tummy to sleep!
We just started eating two meals a day (added breakfast) and so far its going pretty well. Some days he's into eating, and some days he's not. It's been fun experimenting with new foods! He is a drool machine lately, and is just about to cut his first tooth. He's been taking it pretty well and hasn't been much of a grouch at all.
We were sleeping through the night but with teething (and the congestion thats come with it) we're usually up once or twice to pop in a paci or give him some saline.
AJ is such a loving, playful little guy! He LOVES to be tickled by his daddy, and to grab mommy's face and try to eat it. Everyone comments on what a happy boy he is. I'm enjoying every second of this stage and am constantly amazed at how quickly he's learning and growing! But at the same time he's still my sweet, cuddly little baby. The day he letting me rock him to sleep, I'll be one sad mommy!
So we are 8 days out but close enough right?
DD can sit up unassisted for long periods of time. She can reach for toys and she can move things from hand to hand. She can pull herself to a standing position when holding onto your hands - but has yet to do this with the crib, coffee table etc.
DD is not crawling just yet but we have to be getting close. She is rocking on all fours, scooting backwards and lundging herself forward to get out of reach toys
She STTN without any problems and eats about 24-28 oz. a day.
She loves her doorway jumper, riding in the car, our dog, watching the Baby Einstein's Baby McDonald video on Youtube (especially the cow puppet) and a sock monkey that was made by a friend of mine.
DD just turned six months today. She sits up pretty well, not unassisted though. No teeth yet, but she is chewing and drooling on everything, especially her feet and the Nuby bug-a-loop teether. I am feeding her solids twice a day and nursing 6 times a day every three hours. We tried to cut it down to 5, but it never works out. She goes to sleep around 8:30 and sleeps until around 7 (with naps around 9, 12, and 3).
Favorite toy is definitely the exersaucer. We still have a pillow underneath so she can bounce. I think the makers of the exersaucer should look into the average height of babies. She is in the 90th percentile for height and still can't reach the bottom.
Also cheap plastic stacking cups and plastic rings, we take them everywhere. She loves to be on the floor. She will not stay on her back, as soon as you put her down she rolls on her tummy and gets mad if you turn her over. Not really crawling yet.
C sits up unassisted and has started pulling herself up to standing from the sitting position. She army crawls like a champion--from one end of the room to the other, but can't get up on all fours yet to "crawl." She also can't yet get from her tummy or back to sitting--which serves as major frustration! She smiles like crazy all the time at me and DH and shrieks when she is happy--but still doesn't "laugh" (belly laugh). She also doesn't really talk consistently at all. A couple of times we have heard an ah-ga, or a gaga, but it is rare and far inbetween. She mainly still focuses on vowel sounds and shrieking.
She has 2 teeth (they both came in the last 5 days!), and loves to eat! Loves every solid she has tried. We usually give her one meal a day, dinner, which consists of about 3-4 ounces of fruit/veg. Sometimes she eats more, sometimes less--there doesn't seem to be a consistent pattern.
She takes two naps a day, totalling about 2-2.5 hours. She sleeps from 8PM to 7AM, with about a 30-min. wakeup sometime from 3:30-5AM for food. We have tried to cut this one out gently, but she isn't having any of that, so I still get up and let her nurse. She is all smiles in the morning!
Loves taking baths and loves her jumper. Loves plastic bags and finding tiny non-toy things on the ground and putting them in her mouth (scares us half to death--she seems to love the dangerous stuff the most!) She loves her daddy and her grins when he walks in the door at night melt my heart.
Reece sits up unassisted for the most part until he sees a toy, gets excited and falls to the side. I let him fall gently and leave him so he can figure out what to do, which he has... he will get on his tummy and get on all fours and do the back and forth motion like he is getting ready to race. As of yesterday, he lifts his knees off the floor and does the downward dog pose, pretty funny and I need to get a picture. This usually ends up in a belly slam and face plant.
Reece sits up in his bath and plays with his toys and splashes. He reaches for his toys while sitting, smiles and laughs and me and his dad and reaches for us. Uses a sippy cup once a day for practice. Balances himself near ottoman when standing ( I spot him and he usally falls).
He STTN about 9 to 10 hours at a time 9pm to 6am (8pm to 6am) and will go back down for another 2 hours (sometimes). There are times he will cough or something which will wake him and wants comfort food, so I will feed him and he will go back down. He takes 3 naps a day varying between 3 hours total sometimes 1.5 to 2 hours total.
He loves his excersaucer and his movable car, runs around the house in that thing and finds it amusing to run into my ankles and our walls.
He eats solids like a champ, eating 2 solids a day and taking about 25oz of formula a day.
It's been a month, so this is a memory test.
- Started sitting unassisted (within a week, she basically stopped toppling)
- Went from 1 to 2 meals a day (and is loving all meals)
- Went down to eating about 30 oz. of formula a day
- Had another wakefulness period that lasted several weeks (she's now back to STTN)
- Naps were (and still are inconsistent) some days she cat naps off and on and then other days she'll take a 2.5 hours nap
- Talks all time
- Gets mad when you take something awhile that she wants to play with (aka: remote)
Mia is sitting up unassisted very well and will reach for toys, the dog, your face etc. She's very good at rolling in all directions and is trying to creep, but not up on all fours yet. She's eating solids 3 x per day, fruit puree and cereal or yogurt in the am, pureed veggies at daycare, and BLW style veggies at dinner time.
She's been STTN since 7 weeks but, still needs an occasional check in to pop in the paci in the middle of the night. She has been getting up around (good lord) 5 am to host a party in her crib with lots of babbling to herself and her hands. Nightime sleep is great but she's not the best napper- we're getting about 1.5 hours total when she's at daycare, tend to do a wee bit better on weekends. She is a super happy little girl so I'm not too concerned.
No teeth yet, and no signs of them either! She loves her exersaucer, and her new fishtank toy (taking toys out and putting them back in, but mostly just putting them in her mouth)
She does so much now it's amazing! Can't wait for the next 6 months with my little love!
Nora sits up unassisted and can get herself into that position from laying on the floor. She rolls both ways and scoots like crazy, but isn't crawling yet. She's able to travel a fair distance by scrunching up her legs and shooting forward and she'll get on hands and knees and rock back and forth, but hasn't put it all together.
She STTN from 7:30/8 PM - 6 AM. She usually takes 3 naps/day ranging from 45 minutes to 2 hours.
She eats five times/day (nurses before I go to work and before she goes to bed and gets 3 5.5 oz bottles throughout the day). She eats one meal of pureed veggies with rice cereal at dinner time. No teeth yet.
She babbles/talks like crazy and loves to laugh! She loves her jumperoo, crinkly blocks, and any cloth she can shove in her mouth.
He goes to bed around 10 and wakes up around 9 with 2 to 3 feedings in between. He usually naps 2 to 3 naps a day. He eats half a jar of baby food along with 1tbsp of cereal mixed in twice a day.
He doesn't really babble much; it's more like growling. He always has a smile on his face, but it takes some serious effort for it to be a full out laugh. He does get mad when something is taken away, and he gets excited for things like when daddy walks in from work.
Favorite toys are jumperoo, walker, monkey keys and stuffed elephant that has different textures on it.
We are a week out but close enough! L sits unassisted but still topples so I don't leave him sitting alone. Rolls from his belly to his back like a champ. When he's on his back, he tries to roll to his belly but still has some trouble. Just today, though, he's done it twice successfully so I think he is on his way! He pretty much has no interest in crawling but wants to walk. He stands up on his own if he's holding onto something (e.g., couch, play table, etc.) and if he's holding on to our fingers will take a few steps at a time to try to get something.
He switches things back and forth between hands, understands cause and effect and has established object permanence. He screeches all the time and makes lots of sounds but no reduplicated syllables just yet. He tries to imitate my speech and facial movements.
L started solids this week and has tried sweet potato, green beans and avocado. He loves the idea but is still getting used to the new sensations that are happening in his mouth! His favorite so far is avocado. He still nurses 6-7 times a day usually 2.5-3 hours in between each session.
No where near STTN but he has gone from waking up 5-6 times a night to only being up 2 times a night (3 times every once in awhile). Naps are 30-45 minutes tops 3x a day but he will extend his afternoon nap to 1.5 hours if I go in and play his music after he wakes up.
Loves his playmat, watching the dog and his jumperoo. Rattles have also recently become enthralling. His absolute favorite toy is Sir-Prance-a-Lot made by Lamaze.
Emily is doing alot of fun stuff these days and I love it!!!
She sits completely unassisted, she can lean and grab toys and pick herself back up into sitting position. She started hopping on her bottom when she is sitting when she gets excited about something, infact she "hopped" right off the couch yesterday trying to get the dog.
She has loved every food we have put in her mouth, she has tried every food in the stage 2 of gerber. She also eats some off our plates, taking the food to her mouth and "chewing" it.
She can push herself up into crawling position and hold it for a few minutes. She just started reaching for us to pick her up and turning away from people she doesnt want to hold her.
OH and my favorite, she says "momma" she doesnt direct it at me but she says it over and over and over again, melts my heart even though I know she doesnt know that I am momma.
I'll share what my 7 month olds do. Natalia (DD1) started actually getting herself into a sitting position from laying down on Sunday night. It's awesome to watch. She's trying super hard to crawl and rolls everywhere. She can grab things with both hands, eat her feet, put her own pacifier in her mouth, and reaches for things. She loves playing with light up toys and in the exersaucer. She's been eating solids since 5 months and does really well with it. She hates her bottle and drinks it best while sleeping. She's uncomfortable from teething and up a few times a night as a result. She likes people and smiles easily as long as someone she knows is holding her, but is much more shy with going to new people. She likes to observe and is always interested in what others are doing.
DD2 can sit unassisted but can't get into that position on her own. She is much more vocal, though, and I swear last night when I was holding her sister she was saying "mamamama" as she was crying for me to pick her up
She yells a lot and is very loud. She's up on her hands and knees pretty well but not as close to crawling. She loves her jumperoo because she loves moving. She's also eating solids like a champ. She will go to anybody anytime and loves playing with her 1 year old cousin and doesn't mind when he crawls over her or is a little rough. She's tough and loves to play and be heard.
