Hey, what a nice thing to find on the board when I got here! I had my baby boy on Thursday. I was induced due to pre-e early Tuesday morning. I knew going into it that he was in an odd position and had done everything I could think of (and had time to do) to change it, but it didn't work. We finally broke my water on Wednesday at noon and that ramped up contractions. I did pretty well until I got to 6 cm and then it felt like all hell broke loose. I don't know if that's when he moved his arm up, or what, but I just absolutely could not relax. I was looking at my blood pressures and realized that they were climbing like crazy -170s over 110s... and that's NOT during a contraction. I realized that my OB was going to put me on the fast track to C-section and decided on an epi. My blood pressures went back down, but my son stopped tolerating contractions. We went to C-section at about 12:45 in the morning. Apparently he had moved his arm above his head and was pretty wedged in.
I didn't get to hold him for about 3 hours afterward. That was really disappointing. They gave me the option about an hour afterward but I was shaking so badly that it wouldn't have been safe to hold him, and definitely wouldn't have been a special bonding time. It's definitely not what I was hoping for, but I keep reminding myself that I wanted the RIGHT birth for me and my son and with our situation this was the RIGHT birth for us - even though that's disappointing.
I made a comment shortly afterward that I wouldn't be trying a med free birth again. I don't know how accurate that is. The disappointment is pretty tough to deal with and at this point I really struggle with trusting my body. I'll probably be looking to this board next time for some ideas of ways to deal with that. I'm recovering now and things are going pretty well. Breastfeeding is going great, with a bump here and there. Thank you so much for asking.
Congratulations on a healthy baby boy! I'm so sorry that you didn't have the birth experience that you were hoping for. I really think it's great that you were open to different options based on what was medically necessary for you and your LO so that everything turned out well. GL with the recover and post some pics when you get a chance!
Re: judahsmommy- update?
