Thirsties DUO AIO ?

Did you find the weight ranges for size 1 & 2 to be accurate?  How was the fit when your LO reached the changeover weight?

I just got a few size 1's and they seem so small!  DS is ~14lbs. The diaper says it goes up to 18lbs, but I don't know.

I'm not sure if I should just buy size 2's and put them on the smallest setting and sell these size 1's right away (while they're still unused) or have him use the size 1's for a little while and then buy more size 2's later.

Re: Thirsties DUO AIO ?

  • I don't have direct experience with the Duo sizing, but I found that DD outgrew her Thirsties size small cover long before the stated 18 lbs. She's 18 lbs now and hasn't fit into the small covers for about 2 months. They just got way too short in the rise. The medium fits great, though.

I've heard the Duos run smaller than the stated size (like the size one barely fits until 15 lbs and the size 2 until only 30 lbs).

  • That's good to know!  Thanks!  If only I had realized that before I bought the 3 size 1's diapers that I just washed.  LOL!  Oh well...

I guess I'll buy a bunch of the Size 2's then now.

  • My DD is 14 lbs also, and a fairly skinny baby. We have some of the size 1s and I'm about to switch over to size 2 probably within the next month. I think they will still fit her for a while, but we're getting closer and closer to the edge. Also, do you use the aplix or snap version? I had one snap version and she can no longer wear that one, but the aplix still work.

  • I love my duo AIOs, my size ones were on LO at 6 pounds. Can you just exchange your size 1s for 2s?

We have the snaps.  He's a chubby baby and about 14lbs.  I think he'll be able to wear the Size 1's for a few more weeks... maybe.

  • we didn't get them until DS was already in a 2 but they run smaller than other brands or even other thirsties.

I'm an idiot!  I tried them on him, thought they fit, then washed them and now I'm having doubts that they're big enough.  They "fit" okay right now, but I wonder if the Size 2's would fit also and then last longer.  I doubt they'll take them back if they're washed already.  :(

Sell them on the For Sale/Wanted post here or on Diaperswappers. Since they've really never been used, just washed, you'll probably get close to full price..

  • I can't speak about the AIO specifically, but in the covers and duo diaper I found there to be a gap between the size 1s and 2s.  He outgrew the 1s way before the listed max weight, however the 2s were huge!  Luckily I didn't have very many...if they'd been my whole stash I would have been screwed until he grew into the 2s which in our case was at least a month or more.

  • I only have experience with size 2, and they ran small. They start at 18 lbs. DS was exactly 18 when I put him in it and I had to put it on the middle setting.

That being said, that diaper didn't work for us. It always leaked :(

  • DD outgrew size 1 at 14lb (6 months).  She is 10th percentile so I don't know where they get the 0-9 months size either.

  • While I don't love my Thirsties DUO AIO's I have been very surprised at how long they actually fit my DD. She was about 12lbs when we began using them and I thought "these will never last till 18 lbs" however, she just weighed in at 17.5 and we are still using them. Albeit totally unsnapped (super low rise) but both snaps on the wings are on the front panel. I don't love the way it fits but it does still fit! I think this would be a great NB diaper but can't actually imagine it fitting to 9 months as my DD is 6 months...
  • we have the size 2 my daughter is 2 and about 26ish pounds and we are still on the second rise  and we have aplix though
