Re: Home Study ?

  • How long they're good for depends on the state. They were good for a year in our state.

Most full-service agencies will perform their own homestudies. Smaller ones may contract them out. Law firms typically work with agencies who perform the homestudy.

The FAQs may cover the HS, but the basics are:

    -Criminal clearances (state and federal)

-Autobiography (specifics vary by agency) in which you explore things like your background, childhood, family life, perspectives on adoption, childrearing, etc. This is usually used as a jumping off point for the social worker to have conversations about this topic

-Home visit, in which the social worker will confirm that your home is acceptable to raise a child

Any other specific questions, just ask :)

  • Two years in my state, and then you pay a much smaller fee to update it.  I have friends who waited 4+ years to adopt from China and they had to update theirs twice.

15 treatment cycles: four early m/c
Moving forward with domestic infant adoption!

Home study approved 5/13, now just waiting...

  • A caveat to keep in mind is that there are changes between IA and DA homestudies and generally it's more expensive to change from a DA to an IA... not sure if that's even relevant but in case it is.... :)
