My little baby has to have surgery in either January or February. He has to be at least 6 months old for anesthesia. He was born with Hypospadias, which is where his pee hole is not on the tip, but just a little lower. He has the most common form of it. We went to see a Urologist this morning and he also said he has Chordee, which is a little curve in the penis. He wasn't circumsized when he was born b/c of this. He sort of looks like he already is. He looks normal and goes potty normal. You would never know unless you look closely. When they do the surgery they will fix everything to make his penis look "normal". They will put a stint, or a tube catheter in his penis so he can pee and it not interfere with the stitches. He will have that in for 7-14 days and it should take around 4 weeks to heal up. The doctor said it doesn't really bother the baby and he wont have any problems in the future, unless there is scar tissue or the hole that was closed up reopens (these both are a 3 in 300 chance). But if we don't get it fixed he will have lots of problems going to the bathroom, sexually, and with fertility. I have been crying all morning!!! I know there is always the possibility of something going wrong, but he will have more problems/issues when he is older if we don't have it done. It's just the thought of the whole anesthesia. I just feel so sad =( Does anyone know of anyone who has had this? Any advice is always welcomed. Oh and Kellen may need to have surgery in a year or so also. He is a toe walker and his cords are all tight. He has to wear leg braces for 23 hours out of 24 hours for 1 month and then just at night for 6 months then we go back to see if there has been any change. We also have to do a lot of exercised and therapy. But I will say he is the fastest kid i've ever seen, and speed is due to his toe walking. If he needs surgery he will have a cast on both legs for 6 weeks =( So if your DC is a toe walker try to get them to start walking heel toe.
Sorry so long. Thanks for letting me tell my story.
Re: Ayden has to have surgery
Oh how nervewracking! It sounds like a pretty straightforward procedure but I don't blame you for being so scared and upset. I'm sure everything will go wonderfully. Keep us updated! (((HUGS)))
Mason had chordee (no hypospadias though) and had to have surgery for it in July. They repaired the chordee and circumsized him. Honestly, it was 10,000x easier than I expected!
Which urologist did you see? We went to Dr.Alam with Children's and he was wonderful. I was so impressed with how Children's handled the same day surgery. They made it so easy on the parents.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! I was a nervous wreck for those weeks leading up to surgery, but, like I said, it was so much easier than I thought it would be!

My best friend's two boys both had surgery for hypospadias. I don't know the urolologist's name, but they were both done in Cinci... one of which was just done recently. Both of her boys did great and have recovered without any issues. I know it must be hard to think about your little guy having surgery, but it should prevent him from having problems in the long run. At least know you aren't alone, other moms and little boys have been through it and it all turned out okay.
Hi Becca. You definitely have the support of all of us here on the Cincy Nest. You have two very courageous boys who will hopefully breeze through these surgeries. Please keep us posted.?
