Hello all!
I've been lurking for a while now. Here's a little background... Hubby and I have tried to conceive for 4 years. We had a miscarriage a year ago and finally started fertility treatments. IUI didn't work so we tried IVF. First round with IVF worked! We found out we were having twins. We are almost 9 weeks and went in for our last u/s with RE and she saw one more! It looks like we have 1 paternal and identicals! So exciting... Only problem is she saw 2 yolk sacs but couldn't see a membrane separating them. Could it be too early? Any positive stories to share? We are trying to get an appointment with an MFM but I'm not sure how soon we can get in. Until then, we are a nervous wreck!
Re: Lurker-finally posting... Triplets!
Congratulations and welcome!
Just FYI, it's "fraternal", not "paternal".
And 2 yolk sacs is a good sign that the identicals will end up with their own amniotic sacs.

Wow, that is so exciting? Can I ask what day you transferred? I'm curious if there's a correlation between how old the embie was and the chances of ID's!
Do you have a picture yet?
Oh, LOL! I thought fraternal too but the check out receptionist said paternal so I thought I didn't know what I was talking about. Thanks for clearing that up... And great to know that 2 yolk sacs is good news! I have no idea. I just started reading Dr. Luke's book but always bypassed the triplet or identical twin discussions. Time to re-read some chapters. By the way, love the pics of your boys!!
It was a 5 day transfer. The doc said the chance of them splitting was less than 1%. Crazy!
I know you guys have had some crazy fakers here lately but I'm not making this one up. We are in shock. No pictures yet. And this sounds even more of a faker but the doc was testing out a brand new u/s machine and they printed pics out for my chart but not for me. When I asked the tech for one, she just tried to reprint the last pic that was of baby c's heart rate of 172!
thanks! funny about the receptionist!
we thought two of ours were monoamniotic until very late, so i learned a lot about it. definitely don't worry about it!

Did you guys see an MFM and an ob? My ob said she can co-manage but then the receptionist said 'I don't think we've ever seen triplets in this office!' Ok, I do not feel comfortable anymore. Ha!
When did you start telling people? We were going to wait for week 10. When it was just twins but now, we have no idea...
LOL, oops!!!
Congratulations!!!
I can really relate with you. We did one cycle of IVF after years of TTC and two losses. We put in 2 eggs on a day 5 transfer and were thrilled both took, we stopped seeing RE after the good news (because it was a fortune) and then at our hospital scan just shy of 13 weeks we got the news that one of the eggs split! We are happily expecting a boy and identical girls! I know how scary it is when you first find out because you worry about each one and just want to get them here safely but it is a high risk pregnancy. I'm glad that you got Dr. Luke's book... it is a good guide especially when you don't know where to begin.
While our journey still continues, I am happy to report that we are 25 weeks along and my cervix looks great and the babies are measuring in the 49%, 52% and 67%! I am still a nervous wreck but I have been getting more confident with each passing week.
Since we only found out at 13 weeks... we started to see a MFM at 14 weeks and never went back to our OB. I think you should def. see an MFM. We saw our MFM every other week and then at week 24 we began seeing them weekly. Once I saw my MFM they put me on a bunch of extra supplements so you might want to ask them about that soon.
In regards to your question about when to tell... that's a really personal decision but for us, we waited as long as we possibly could. We told our family while we were still in a state of shock after our hospital scan (13 weeks)--- they had no idea we were even doing IVF and they were literally speechless for a good while! Because I was so scared of another loss, I did not tell coworkers 'til I was 15 weeks even though they all probably suspected I was pregnant (since I was showing a bit and wore the same 3 ruffly tops all the time) but in no way did they expect me to say we were having triplets.
Many congratulations to you and please don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have! Lots of luck on a long and uneventful pregnancy!
Congrats all mine are fraternal. We told around 9 weeks when we found out since it was my second pregnancy and mine were quads to start with. We thought I would show very quick boy were we wrong I did not show till 20 weeks.
I only saw a MFM dr no OB but my clinic had a special clinic once a week for multiples and only had MFM drs. I was high risk for the triplets and for preterm birth of my oldest.
Good luck feel free to ask any questions.
Welcome! I have a set of identicals and a fraternal, and we did not see a membrane until 11 weeks, at which point baby B was using it like a hammock
There were 2 yolk sacs at 7 weeks, which is usually a good sign that they will have their own amniotic sac, so I wouldn't stress yourself out over it.
Get yourself in with a good MFM practice, even if you share care with your OB. I wanted to be with a doc who sees triplets "all the time" (which is 10-20 sets a year) vs. my OB who had delivered one set ever. There are just too many potential complications for me to feel comfortable with that. If you live too far from a major medical center, maybe they can work out a sharing arrangement so that if you do experience complications, you have someone specialized to go to.
Good luck!

That's great news!
