Infection?

I'm 10 days PP and this evening I noticed the right side of my incision was a little sore. We were walking around a museum most the afternoon, so I thought it was becaues I did too much today.  When we got home, I noticed there was a big lump where the sore spot was.  It's very tender to the touch. I'm pretty sure it's an infection, but I don't have a fever or any drainage, and I had my H look at it and he said it didn't look red at all (I have steri strips though, so it's hard to see the actual incision).

I'm going to the dr. first thing in the morning to have someone look at it, but I was wondering if anyone has had any symptoms like this and if so, what did they do?

Thanks ladies!

Re: Infection?

  • I had the same issue and it was an infection.  Unfortunately, when I went to the doctor the first time, my ob was not available so I saw someone else.  They told me it was just water gathered under my incision, which is normal.  Two weeks later, I was still sore and it was starting to leak almost all day.  I went back and saw my own ob and she said it was an infection. She put me on antibiotics and I was fine a few days later.  Good luck, hopefully its nothing.

  • the soreness can be pretty bad for a while.  Most likely if it isn't draining, red or smelly it probably is normal.  I always had pain on one side and never had an infection...turns out it was the side of the first cut both times...who knew.  Anytime I have any uncomfortableness now It is the same side!  so annoying.  If you have an infection they have to give you some meds to get rid of it.

I hope its just normal healing, but its good your seeing the dr.!

I agree with this completely. Also the lump you are feeling could be due to the stitches. It is not uncommon for a cyst to form around the ends of your incision where the knots are formed. I had lumps both times at the each end as well as one side being much more sore than the other due to the fact that it was the side they started on.

  • Thanks for all your advice!

I was able to be seen today and it did end up being an infection. Luckily she said it was small, and it is draining a little. I am on an antibiotic and was told to apply heat to the area to help draw out any drainage (yuck).  And my recovery was going so well.... :( boo.
