I'm desperately trying not to have that issue which is hard cause of work and mandated overtime most days it's work 16 go home spend a little time with the wife then goto bed for 5 hours and go back to work. Hopefully the weight stays off
it happened to me as well... but I think partly to circumstance. I ref high school sports year round as well as club in the summer and college in the fall. Since DW was due during basketball season, I stopped doing games with about a month left just in case. I didn't want to risk her trying to call me just as I was walking onto the court with no phone access at a game an hour away, so I turned back 8 games.
Since L arrived, I've also cut down the number of games I officiate since I can't just run off and do them at the drop of a hat anymore.
I'd say all total, I'm up about 10 pounds since the same time last year. Hopefully increasing my game load starting next week helps bring that back down.
there are two motivations in sports, which is yours?
I have maintained or gained a pound here and there while my wife has actually lost some weight due to her diet changes since being diagnosed with GD. No starch, no sugar, no pasta, no bread......a very low carb diet that she monitors religiously, because she has to. I cannot begin to express how proud I am of her. So my minimal weight gain is nothing compared to the amazing strides she has made with her diet in the face of her GD. Her diet has forced me to look at my own diet, and as result I have cut back drastically on my intake of carbs as well. Since the Packer game was on last night I grilled some steaks. For only the third time this summer I had a baked potato with my steak. Being a good Irish boy I love my potatoes, so to only have three, with the amount of grilling I do, is really something.
The transformation of my wife, from being devestated and guilt-ridden when the GD was diagnosed, to today, with the control that she never thought she would have over her diet, is amazing. It is as if the mother in her took over and forced her into taking this life change seriously. We went from being very concerned about the weight of Jacob to feeling comfortable about where he is today with his weight. He is a very healthy boy, and I attribute a lot of that to my wife.
When my wife first got pregnant I was gaining weight with her, but about 2 months ago I couldn't take it...I didn't want my kid to get confused with who is suppose to be breastfeeding. I jumped into a cleanse and some heavy dieting and people think I'm a little extreme, but 20 pounds down and I'm sure my son will be able to distinguish between me and the wifey.
