CPR/First aid certification

Hey ladies, I'm looking into online courses for our child/infant first aid and CPR certification. The one that looked really good to me was reasonably priced and had exactly what we needed, but after exploring a bit more, some reviews said that it was a scam. Now I'm kind of hesitant and unsure about what courses are actually legit. If you did an online course for your homestudy, do you have any recommendations for a good company to go with?

Re: CPR/First aid certification

  • I am in NC so I'm not sure about CA, but I was able to find some good classes through nearby hospitals.  I signed DH and myself up for an infant care class at one of the hospitals for $30.  Might be something to look into, good luck!

  • Try contacting your local red cross office.  Ours offers the classes to anyone who is interested for ~$30.

I happen to be participating in the "worlds largest" CPR training this Saturday.  However my suggestion is to contact your local EMS and see if they have classes.  My husband is an EMT and I know he needs to re-certify every few years, so they should know where you could go for a course.

  • I've done the classes twice in the last two years for my job.  First time through the American Red Cross and second time through the American Heart Association.

I much, much prefer the American Heart Association.  Their protocols are slightly different, but enough to make a big difference in how easy they are to learn.  American Heart Association is really sensitive to the fact that everyday people need to keep it simple to remember what to do otherwise they won't do anything in an emergency.  Red Cross is better for people who are more likely to be in an emergency situation like life guards.

Highly recommend the AHA over ARC.

ETA: I did in person, not online.  I don't think either of these places offer online training.  Go in person if you can.

  • You can't get certified online for CPR as you have to be checked off on hands on demonstration of CPR.  I would recommend checking with local fire department or hospital as they offer classes frequently. Also heartsavers or american red cross also provide courses.  Check for ones in your area.

  • thanks for the help ladies! :)
  • I've been certified through in-person courses twice, and am getting re-certified this month.  The class I'm doing in a couple of weeks is offered through the pregnancy resource center where I work, and is only $3.  Maybe check into places like this?
