TTC after 35

GTKY/Happy Friday Post!

I worked yesterday and have today off before going into a 3 day stretch (when I probably won't have time/energy after my shifts to do much Bumping), so I thought I'd take the opportunity to ask:

What does your screen name mean/signify? Why did you choose to use it for The Knot, the Nest, the Bump?

I know some of us are obvious (like mine!) but others' aren't. I think Llamamama already explained her to some of us-- and "Abeille" I know you're married to a Frenchman, right?, so is your name "Bee?"So I'm curious...

Re: GTKY/Happy Friday Post!

  • My screen name is obvious-- it's my name and MH's. I chose it originally when I signed up for the Knot because I was getting married in Maine, not a lot of vendors had web sites, and I needed to connect with Mainers who knew people, places, vendors, etc. And I needed a place to spill over some of the wedding planning crazy because I did a lot of the wedding stuff DIY...

I never once thought I'd need a screen name that would be more cool, a propos, etc for the Bump way back then, because I never thought I would need The Bump's boards like I have needed y'all.

  • I wasn't very creative when thinking of a screen name. My name is Melissa, which means honey bee in Greek.  The only way I could use Melissa in the s/n was to add a bunch of random numbers to it, so I defaulted to my husband's mother tongue. And yes, Abeille is the french word for bee :-)

  • Good question.  I am saddled with the worst screen name and you don't know how many times I have looked and it and wished I could change it.  I feel like the screen name is the first impression people get when they read your posts.  And mine is so damn BORING, unimaginative, uninteresting and certainly doesn't reflect my personality or who I am.

What does your screen name mean/signify? BabyVDM - the baby part is self explainatory and the VDM is a short cut to my DH's last name which is  3 words v.. d.. M....

Why did you choose to use it for The Knot, the Nest, the Bump? I chose the name because at the time I signed up I was on sick leave from cancer treatment, had just found out I was pregnant.  I was searching and signing up on sites looking for information about what to expect 'while expecting' and stuff.

DH and I weren't married yet, I was on sick leave and so I didn't want to use any of my other screen names or IDs because I was paranoid that about anyone finding out I was pregnant.

What is sad is that I didn't even know about the boards so I didn't realize that I was creating an identity.

I so wish I had one like "SolarFlare" or "Mrs.Nukem" or "McIrish" or LlamaMama" etc. They sound like so much fun.

Oh well, there's my vent.  Thanks for giving me the opportunity.  ;)

  • I am on the boring side of things as far as screen names go. Just a shortened combo of my first and last name. I just used the first thing I could think of when joining The Bump. I was  looking for some information and advice on the TTC front and came across the site and was excited to see this board. I learned more lurking that first day than I had the many months we had been trying!

So happy it's Friday. Have a great weekend everyone.

  • BabyVDM, I'm glad you think my SN is "cool", I think it's kinda silly now, I should have dropped the Mrs part b/c it sounds formal, LOL.  Nukem is a play on our last name phonetically.  My husband's nickname was Duke Nukem at his first job (nicknamed after the video game).  Thus MrsNukem.  My first knot name was super duper boring, I changed it to MrsNukem when I joined the Nest in 2007 and have kept it ever since, I don't want to lose my Silver status if I change my name Stick out tongue

DH isn't so enamored, but likes Annalise, which was already taken on thebump. annalisel was my compromise. I chose it for the bump because I thought it was hopeful about the future.
  • Happy Friday!

Mine has also been a screen name for a long time.  It was chosen for my dear kitty, Emily (Emi(ly)Kat) who passed away a year ago this August.  She was my closest companion for 17 years.

Oh, that's funny!  It would be fitting for Eugene OR though...I thought about changing it to a pot leaf temporarily just for you :) but decided I probably shouldn't...no those are bamboo leaves...a picture I took years ago as a facebook profile photo that I never used.  I thought that the bright green would stand out and be a little different from everyone else's...now the pot leaf would definitely stand out and cause a little controversy here...and that could be fun!

  • I kinda regret my screen name but have been on The Knot, Nest, and Bump since 2007 so it's too late to change it.

Our original wedding date was Oct 4th which immediately made me think of a Smokey and the Bandit hence the trucker reference. For the record, not truckers both of us are work from home office folks and drive small cars. :

  • My screen name is from my occupation (professor) and the mascot of the school I was working at when I joined the bump (owl).  Now that I have relocated and switched jobs, I guess I could change it to longhorn prof, but the owlprof seems to suggest someone who is wise.

Of course, now I always think about how the last time we did this question, someone (Melle?) read my name as owlproof, so I also sometimes think about myself being impervious to owls.

Me 39 & suspected PCOS, DH 42. Went off BCP when we got married in 11/11, seriously TTC since 3/12.  Six cycles of clomid = BFNs.  Suspected endometriosis & HSG showed both tubes blocked.  Sept 2013 IVF 5D transfer of two perfect embryos = BFN.  Started acupuncture and taking time off to drop some pounds & get healthier before FET in April 2014.
  • Hi all... my name is a combination  - shortened version of my first name and "June" was the month I was originally supposed to give birth - which actually was wrong anyway as it turned out I was due in July not June. ooops.
