Hi!
I failed my 1 hour GD test by 24 points, which I've heard is pretty common when pregnant with multiples. My nurse called, explained everything to me, and I'm doing the 3 hour test Thursday morning. I'm TRYING not to worry until I get the results of that one back, but here's my question:
Did you alter your diet before the test in any way if you had to do the 3 hour glucose tolerance test?
My nurse didn't mention this to me at all. She told me about fasting, but nothing about altering my diet. Dr. Google (I know, I KNOW!) says I should eat a high carb diet for three days prior. Could you ladies chime in and let me know what you did/what your nurse told you to do? Thanks so much.
xoxo
Re: High carb diet before 3 hr GD test?
I passed the 1 hour test, but if I hadn't I wouldn't have altered my diet in any way. The way I look at it is that you want to be tested based on how you eat every day. If how you eat every day is causing your body to react negatively then you need to know that and adjust accordingly. GD can be serious and I wouldn't want to "trick" the test in any way. If you only fail by a small amount then maybe you can just keep it in check through diet and not have to worry about needing any shots or medication.
Good luck!
^^^exactly.
You don't want to alter your diet for a couple of days to "cheat" the test.... it isn't a pass/fail to decide whether you get to keep your babies... it's a test to find out if your body is properly processing sugars. Continue eating like you have been, so that they get an accurate reading and they can tell you what modifications they want you to make...
Not to mention the fact that if you DO have GB, eating a high carbohydrate (i.e. packed full of f'cking sugar) diet for a couple of days could be very dangerous and harmful.

Exactly. I was confused on why you'd be told to pump your body full of carbs ie, sugar when you should be going into the test with your normal status quo. Thanks ladies, you affirmed my thoughts.
