I never felt comfortable coloring my hair in the beginning of this pregnancy, I know many people think its fine but I dunno, it made me nervous . Anyway, I am now 38 weeks pregnant and I do plan to breastfeed. So, my question is, is it better to color my hair now or after the baby is born and I'll be breastfeeding? Does it matter? Don't giggle at me, I'm a FTM and a little neurotic :
Re: When to color hair?
Most OB's tell you just to avoid it in the first trimester, after that it's fine pre and post baby.
I just got my hair colored today. I am too vain to go into labor with my roots showing!
With all the pictures that are taken after LO is born, I gotta try and look presentable!
<-------- Am a Cosmetologist.
If being around or having hair chemicals touch my skin for periods of time were bad for baby or breastfeeding, then I would be out of a job.
My OB said it was fine both pre-and post-baby.
Which reminds me...my roots are getting bad, I really should get on that.

I waited until after 1st tri and then have colored or done a root touch up (myself, at home) every 4-5 weeks.

It's fine during pregnancy, and I've never even heard anyone mention it being an issue with breastfeeding...
^^ I envy you! I am working towards being a cosmetologist, it's my dream job
This. I think it'd be worse if it was a week-long ordeal to dye our hair but for the max of like an hour between coloring, waiting and rinsing baby should be fine
Don't stress
I just dyed my hair last week a color that will hopefully fade well into my natural color so that I don't have to dye with a newborn.
I'm not worried about breastmilk, but I spend a lot of time cuddling with and sleeping near my babies and since the chemical smell sticks around for a while I'd rather not be thinking about my baby sniffing it. I may be a neurotic STM, but that is my reasoning.
With DS I stopped dying while pregnant and didn't do it again til he was 13 months old, though I have dyed a few times in 2nd and 3rd tri this time around.
