I think the boys have GERD...miserable and fussy after feeding, very spitty, lip smacking, arching back and even makes little squeaky sounds. They had been doing fine on similac sensitive and now are almost 10 weeks and showing these signs. Anyone have any good ideas on how to make them feel better?
Re: GERD advice
I went through it with both girls, but mainly B. Even to the point where she lost a few ounces from the projectile spit up. The only thing that truly controlled it was prescription Zantac and Prevacid from the pediatrician.
We did all of the other tricks: anti-gas bottles, thickened her bottle with rice cereal, burping well, and kept her propped up after feeding (even wearing her in a Mobywrap at some times). I had to switch formulas a few times until we found one that agreed with her the best.
Breast milk seemed to make it worse for her no matter what I did or didn't eat, so for awhile I was pumping for A (she had latching issues) and mixing formula for B, anything I could do to help her keep her bottles down and gain weight. She's my little "special snowflake". Thankfully when she got about 6 months old the symptoms subsided enough where we could wean her off the rx.
Definitely talk to your pediatrician about it!
As an adult who has GERD, medicine is a must for controlling it. There are other things you can do like keeping them upright after feedings or sleeping at an incline, but without the medication, it will still be acidic and they'll still be in pain.
My girls were on zantac and that did the trick, but if that doesn't work within a few days, don't be afraid to ask for something different like prevacid or prilosec.
