Adoption

If this process takes much longer, we may....

end up with a football team!

When we first tried to start the process in July 2010, we were looking to adopt one child.  They advised us to wait a year, since we had a 4 week old son.

So in April 2011 we went back to a DCF informational meeting and decided we wanted to adopt 2 kids at once so siblings wouldn't be seperated.

Fastforward to now, when DCF is finally getting around to do our homestudy.  We are filling out the last of the paperwork, where we have to indicate how many children we are willing to take, and my husband says, "Well if they called us about three siblings, I wouldn't say no."

I love kids and feel that life will lead us to those who are meant to be with us, but let's hope this process doesn't take too much longer or we may end up with the sibling group of 7 I found on AdoptUsKids!Stick out tongue

4/11 Started adoption process for 2 siblings through DCF. 10/12 Found out we are licensed! 12/14 Brought 3 week old identical twin girls home from the hospital.  Could be at least until Summer 1015 til we know if they are forever ours

  • OMG - I say the same thing all the time about getting a BIG sibling group! We too have our home study for 2 or possibly 3 siblings because we don't want the children to be separated - like I was from my siblings when I was adopted.

    Good luck and best wishes!!!

  • That is so funny, I have a feeling we are probably looking at the same sibling group of 7 on AdoptUsKids - although we are not even close to starting the process yet.  It sparked the same discussion though, of what if there were a big sibling group - I think it would be a lot of work but so much fun too!!  Confession - I totally watch 19 Kids and Counting and the new United Bates of America (another family of 19 kids) - I think their lives look so fun, I wouldn't really want to be the one in charge of that many kids  but I think the kids themselves seem so happy I kind of wish I grew up like that sometimes lol!

God bless you and those who would consider 7.  There is no way I could or would do that.  I am more about the quality than quantity and wouldn't feel like I could bring out the best in 7 (in your case 8) children.  I can't imagine even being able to afford to feed 10 people on a daily basis.  When we have family and friends over for the holidays or a BBQ, I am thankful my food bill that week is only that high once in a blue.  Best of luck.
