How to tell DD that Daddy is moving out?

DD is 2.5. How do we tell her that H is moving out? Any experience with this? Her poor little world is about to be turned upside down. Anyway, should we start talking about it now or wait til he actually leaves? He'll be out in the next couple of weeks. TIA.

    2.5 is pretty young.....are you sure she will understand it?

    No, not really. But it seems cruel for him to leave without at least telling her that he won't live here anymore.

    Personally, it seems more cruel to me to put the thought in her mind before he actually goes.  In my kids, it would increase their anxiety.  When DH left for Afghanistan after R&R, I told my 4.5 yo.  The twins, however, knew that we took Daddy to the airport to go "back Ahmy 'gain," in their words.  Any sooner than that and they would have been a mess.
