Boys and boppies

In my circle of girl friends, Boppy pillows are universally understood and appreciated items.  Apparently, they are somewhat mysterious to men.  DH's coworkers put on a baby shower for us this afternoon.  One of the older couples gave us a Boppy (obviously picked out by the wife).  The husband, in a thick Texas accent, told DH that he "wasn't sure if they got the right one of them pilla's", but they had the receipt if we wanted to exchange it.  On the way home, DH finally voiced a question that had obviously been brewing for a while: "how on earth do you use that thing??" He admitted that he thought it helped reduce neck strain in some way by wearing it around your neck while breastfeeding (like the travel pillows).  Once we got home, I tried to demonstrate how it works but I couldn't get it on around my belly and had to have DH "model" it. :)

  • I loved it when my DH found out how much it was used for. He was like hey that really is a nifty little thing.

  • Hahaha...my SIL gave me hers, I will have to ask DH if he knows how it's used for breastfeeding.  I know he's seen friends' facebook pics of their baby propped up in it, but I don't know if he'd have any idea otherwise.

  • That's really funny bc when DD was little I bought her a child sized neck pillow for her convertible car seat never used it though and DH asked me if it was a play boppy so she could nurse her dolls!
  • Well, this is embarrassing.  The other day DH asked me what the Boppy was for.  When I told him it was for nursing, and that it was on several friends' "must have" lists, he asked how you use it.  My response?  Errr... I'm not really sure.  Let's Google it. I wasn't sure how you put it around you. Oops.

  • To add to the "boppy confusion", I just picked up a really cute cover for mine and it has a sliding ring on the seam to keep track of the side from which you last nursed. I showed DH the cover, pointed out the ring, and asked what he thought it's purpose might be... haha... he just slid it back and forth and back and forth with a blank stare.

I was just blessed to have friends who were totally OK with nursing around me.  If not, I would have been googling too.

  • That's really cute! You should write that down as a pregnancy "memory". I love it!

  • I'm not sure if DH understands that it's a good aid for nursing, but he has seen me use it with my nephew so he has some idea of its other functions.
