Tandem nursing in public? Is this even possible?

Possible without disrobing that is? I can do it at home but it takes DH to help me get them both latched and then I'm pretty much exposed. Is this just something that takes time or am I not going to be able to tandem nurse at say a restaurant or something equally public? TIA!

there are nursing bras that you can wear so each nipple is exposed just pull the flaps down. I haven't been able to use a nursing cover up easily with twins nor do I feel like brining my pillow out so I just do one at a time when Im out. Im sure if you're creative enough you can make it work. good luck!

The furthest I've gone so far is to tandem nurse at friends houses. I sit cross legged on the floor and balance one baby on each leg, football style. But I'm not gonna lie, it's pretty much R rated at that point, hahaha. The only reason I haven't tried it in public yet is b/c of my 2-year-old. He would take off on me while I was feeding the babies!

Honestly, I don't care about nursing in public, ie: showing off the goods. If my babies have to eat, they have to eat. If I can do them one at a time with a cover I will, but if I have to flash the world, so be it.

But really, that's up to your own personal level of comfort, I guess what I'm saying is, don't feel like you have to cover up for propriety's sake, do what you feel is best for you.

I'm pretty unshy about nip and I never managed to make it work. I used to do it at LLL meetings or baby and mom yoga, but otherwise I didn't go out much by myself until they were old enough to wait a min on their own while I fed one and then the other.

Thanks ladies -- I'm completely comfortable NIP and did it often with oldest DD but it occured to me today while out that I can walk around and shop with one latched and nursing but to do them both would require either a Nordstrom's women's lounge or maybe something I hadn't thought about yet. Glad to hear it may be that the babies just need to get older and I need to get bolder

I could never figure out how to do it. I'd do it at a friend's house with my cover on, but I ALWAYS tandem fed with my twin nursing pillow and couldn't lug that into a restaurant or a mall, etc..

If I was at a restaurant, I'd just nurse one, then nurse the other. If we were out running errands, or shopping, I tandem fed in the car sitting in the passenger front seat with my pillow. I'd do it in a parking lot, or pull over into a park, etc...

That being said, I still got out and did stuff- I didn't HAVE to tandem feed in public to do that, KWIM?

good question! I wondered this too. I nursed my other 2 in public with a cover but am wondering how it works with 2. It's good to know I'm not the only one who thinks it's a challenge.

I guess it depends on where you go? When the boys were 1 week old we lugged the twin nursing pillow (aka "the big green") to my DH 's family's bar mitzvah and ended up nursing in the temple library. Probably not something that has ever happened in that library before! But I think if we were someplace like the mall it would be nearly impossible. So I guess for me it's just wherever I am willing to lug the pillow because I have not tried tandem feeding without it. GL!

I only ever tandem BFed with the EZ 2 Nurse pillow. The idea of trying to tandem NIP sounds tricky to me but if you find a way to make it work, let us know! I've seen this question before but I don't think most of us have managed to pull it off!

I tandem nursed at home, at a relative/ friend's house, but never really in public. If I was in public, I would feed them one at a time.

I tandem nursed in public all the time, mostly with a cover since there is so much more exposure than with just one baby. I always wear a tank top underneath my tshirt (or whatever shirt) so I pull my shirt up, my tank down and basically only the nip is exposed for the babies. And then you don't have to wear nursing specific stuff all the time The biggest PITA was carting the giant pillow everywhere when they were small. Once they could tandem nurse while sitting up I nursed them on the side of the trails while hiking etc without my pillow. Now it's easier to nurse one at a time when we are out but I still tandem nurse 99 percent of the time when we are home.

With patience you will get it in no time!
