I read that putting R to bed earlier won't make him wake up earlier, but I think we've proven that theory false. I got him to bed last night about 8pm, he woke up at 9pm, back down about 9:30ish, and was up about 2:45. I tried everything I knew to get him to sleep, and when I thought I had him asleep and I laid him in his crib, he'd open his eyes and start giggling like "Haha, Mom, got ya!!" and he'd stand back up.
He didn't go back to sleep until after 6 am, when I went and got DH up and asked him to take over because I was exhausted. DH did so (without complaint, might I add!!) and I was asleep before they left the room. He said that R took a very short nap while I was asleep, but he was back up at 8:30 wanting to eat, so I got back up. I got R to take about an hour nap during his normal morning nap time about 9:30, and he's been up and going strong since about 10:30.
FIL *insists* that feeding R solids right before bed will help - tried that the other night, no change in sleep. Any ideas on what might help?
Re: Need sleep help...
I've recently started closing O's door so there is not light from anywhere shining in her room and it has helped tremendously.
Maybe you need to talk to your pedi about sleep, or you can try CIO. Did you read that PDF file?

I read it. I tried it on Thursday night, but ended up having to just nurse him to sleep because I took pity on DH who had to be up at 3am, instead of his usual 6am, and needed sleep. If things don't improve, I'll probably try again the weekend after R's birthday. DH has a 3-day drill that weekend and I'll have possibly Thursday, but definitely Friday and Saturday night here to try to work on R's sleep.
So there's this boy. He kinda stole my heart. He calls me "Mom"

This. I was so against CIO but I am a big believer in it now. I put C in her crib and immediately walk out of the room and shut the door. She rarely goes to sleep right away but she'll entertain herself fr a bit and then go to sleep. I only go back in if she is absolutely freaking out, and that usually only happens if she's thrown her paci on the floor. I calm her down for a couple minutes and then put her down and leave immediately. I did the Sleep Easy Solution and followed it to a T and as hard as it was, I have zero regrets.
