Curious: personal reports and "AW" label

So, lately I've been seeing people add "AW" to their updates, doctor visits, PIPs, etc.  I'm really curious if the community really thinks that this sort of post IS attention seeking.  I mean, boards like this are only formed by those seeking community and some level of attention; after all, if no one posted anything that was going on in their own lives we would be left with nothing but clicky polls, which, personally, I find less than intellectually stimulating or informative. Some of the folks here have few others with whom to share their joy, I know, so I certainly hope they can share without feeling guilty.

I really enjoy reading about the joys and triumphs of others (and especially seeing pics!) and don't think those sharing these moments are behaving in any way "whoreishly." Forgive me if I speak out of turn, but "AW" just turns my stomach a little, especially when attached to a picture of an ultrasound baby.  My baby is my pride and joy and I'm concerned that people would think that I am being an "AW" for sharing.

I think this board is pretty darn nice; I think we're even nice when compared to some of the other boards (How can some of those women be so mean? Blows my mind . . .)!  I feel really lucky that I'm due in March!

What are your thoughts? Do you use "AW" just so March Moms know that you're going to share about yourself and your baby? Do you even care? : )

Hopefully this doesn't start a tirade.

Re: Curious: personal reports and "AW" label

  • Sometimes when I see AW in a post, I will click to read it, and I don't think there is anything AW about the post at all. Kinda silly if you ask me. I think a real AW post is when people talk about MUD, and stuff that nobody cares about. I agree with you 150% though, this board is wonderful, and I am very blessed to be due with all these great girls.

  • I've never used it... For a LONG time I actually that it meant aaaaaww... As in "how cute" because it was always associated with a picture. Dumb me.. I know 7

  • I also don't understand why people do this. I also associate the AW label with things related to MUD etc. Regular updates and posts about the lives of the ladies on this board do not garner AW status in my opinion.

  • I used it for the first time today because I really felt my post was more of a "Look at me! Look at me!".  I dont think it's necessary for appointment updates or baby progress updates.  I think that's exactly what this board is for, to share your good news.  Also if I see AW, I tend to read those first because I feel that person might want extra attention or comments, so I oblige.

I must apologize that my clicky polls are not "intellectually stimulating or informative."  I can't help but take it a little personal since my clicky post is the only one currently on the board.  Sometime I like to break up the monotony but to each is own.  You don't have to like them.

If you reference the bump glossary you will note that AW does not necessarily mean attention whore in most cases it means attention wanted.

Hopefully that was enough information to stimulate your intellect to make up for my clicky post.

It means attention wanted, thank u!! As in "attention wanted: I had my ultrasound today!".  I don't understand why anyone would have a problem with this saying, because by sharing a picture or post about your own life where you are not seeking advice, etc, you are clearly just wanting attention, and thus the AW.

And day lights, I love your clicky posts - those are the most fun part of the board to me.

  • Were you bored today when making this post ? People can post whatever they want. Even if it means attaching an AW on every single one in my opinion.

If you do not like it just do not read it no ?

  • Yup, absolutely right!  : )  As noted, I apologized for offending, but I'll do it a little better now.

  • Attention Wanted or not...isn't the purpose of posting threads so that other people give them their attention, read them, and reply? I think that's why I think the AW is unnecessary. Meh.

I don't have any clue why people put that, but it had always been that way since I've been on TB. I think you are reading far too into it. It's really not a big deal.
