Craps and lower back pain--is this normal?

So I've had pretty consistent cramping the entire pregnancy, but I started getting it more frequently on Thursday.  Then Friday morning I woke up with lower back pain.  None of the pain (cramps or back pain) is severe its more nagging and it comes and goes throughout the day--worse in the morning and evening.

I did call the doctor on Friday and she said that as long as the pain is not severe and I don't have bleeding it shouldn't be anything to worry about.

But I am a little worried because today I've had continuous cramping and back pain and my legs are slightly achy.

Am I being overly worry wart-ish?  Anyone else having these symptoms?  My doctor said it could be a sign of the uterus growing.

Re: Craps and lower back pain--is this normal?

  • Right after I posted this I got a really strong shooting pain in my uterus area.  RLP?

  • I don't know how to answer your question, but want to thank you for posting because I'm wondering the same thing.  I have been feeling something similar.  I get occassional sharp shooting pains (like maybe 2x per day or so, when changing positions) but also have felt a dull achey cramping type feeling in my uterus/lower back area.  It reminds me of menstrual cramps, but much much less severe.  Just enough to notice., and nothing "painful", just kind of there.  I have read that it can feel that way from the uterus stretching and growing, so I'm also hoping that's what it is.  No bleeding or anything else, just dull crampy feelings is how I would describe it.  It started just before I turned 14 weeks and I'm noticing it on and off.....I'd love to hear any STM's who might remember feeling this way in other pregnancies?

  • I have had cramping almost all fourteen weeks so far.  I would say that while I don't have the pain all day every day, I have it at some point every day.  And mine is worse in morning and evening as well.  Just recently I have also started having back pain and leg pains.

My doctor said the same thing ... that as long as there is no bleeding, not to worry.

I guess it's just growing and stretching!

  • Mild cramps can be normal, but if you are worried, you should call and ask your OB.  Sometimes drinking more water can help.  Also, check your title - although it amused me. :)

  • I don't like to tell anyone cramps or bleeding are normal but I will say that I had exactly what you are describing for 3 days this week...actually with some spotting too... they did an u/s and everything was fine. I think it just comes with the territory but we all worry and if it will squelch your fears you should be seen.

  • Ha ha ha I had no idea what you ladies were talking about until I went back and checked the title.  I just laughed about that for like 3 minutes straight.

Yes mine feel like mild period cramps too.  I do feel much better that I'm not the only one experiencing this.  I imagine it must be normal, but I guess I'm a little sensitive to every twing of pain or crap/cramp : )

  • I often get period like cramps. I always think for a split second that my period is showing up and then I remember that I'm pregnant. I had this all my last pregnancy too. As for back pain and leg pain remember that your ligaments are all loosening up so things are moving around and muscle groups are working differently. The joys of pregnancy!
