2nd Trimester

lower right abdominal pain

So for awhile now I have experienced pain in my lower right ab area.  I asked my doctor about it at my last appointment (two weeks ago) and they tested me for a UTI and everything came back fine, but he told me to monitor it.  The last few days I have noticed the pain is definitely still present.  Especially first thing in the morning and especially when I pee.  I am just worried that I have some sort of infection that is going unnoticed and I read online that if an infection travels to the uterus it can be very dangerous to the baby and me.

Has anyone else experienced this?  I have another appt. on Monday - so I feel like I could wait until then and ask....but would do something sooner?  Since its the weekend my only option is the ER.  Thanks for the input!

Re: lower right abdominal pain

  • Is it constant, or sporadic?  It sounds like round ligament pain, I had it really bad the other night and every so often I get it pretty sharply.  It feels like a stabbing pain combined with a harsh runners cramp.

  • It comes and goes - most of the time I only feel it when I urinate - could that be RLP? I was assuming that because it only really hurt when I urinate that it may have something to do with my bladder/urinary tract...it would be quite a relief iff it just RLP!
  • I have the same thing!!!  Mine is also when I urinate, but especially right after.  I just got tested for a UTI today and it was normal

Interesting - well at least I'm not the only one!  I was surprised that my UTI test came back normal, and was beginning to blame he nurse - so knowing yours came back normal makes me feel good, ha.  I will let you know if anything is discovered on Monday.

  • I get some really sharp cramps if I don't pee often enough... like every hour or hour and a half. If I stretch it to two hours or longer, it hurts like hell.

    Totally normal.

  • Since your doctor wasn't concerned last time you talked to them and you're going in on Monday anyway I would just wait until my appointment to address the issue unless of course it starts getting progressively worse and you feel immediate attention is warranted.

  • Also, are you staying hydrated?  A lot of times that or constipation can be the culprits.
  • It sounds like RLP. The round ligament gets aggravated by being stretched and pulled. When your bladder is full your round ligament is stretched. When you relieve yourself, the round ligament relaxes again and can cause pain just by movement. I had it a lot when I was about as far along as you were. GL!

  • I'm going through something similar, but I don't know how similar. I feel sharp lower right ab pain (really, really, low,) when I stand up too fast.... Is that weird? Similar?

That defiantly sounds like RLP if it's when you stand up. I have all these pains, one in particular had me calling the Dr. They did some test, all fine, she said it sounds like RLP. If it's your 1st, like me, it all feels new and unusual. We don't know what's normal because we've never felt it.
