Adoption

Holy Cow, are we matched?!

Day 1 of our profile being activated we already got an e-mail.  This is from a couple in Arizona (we are in NC)..they are both 20..she's only 7 weeks so it made me nervous but they both seem so confident in this decision and they have all the support from their family.  We even video chatted!  This escalated pretty quickly so I guess we just need to let it all sink in..and again, since she is so early, we don't want to get our hopes up.  I still can't believe this...it would be so AMAZING if this works out.

Have any of you had a match work out that early in the pregnancy?

Re: Holy Cow, are we matched?!

  • Wow!!  How exciting.

Seven weeks is super early...  we matched DD2's birth family at 14 weeks and thought that was early.

Is this through an agency or lawyer?  Or independent?

She has an appt with an agency Tuesday but said she probably won't even go now that she found us.  I mentioned that no matter what, she wants to get an attorney to protect her rights.  She mentioned they couldn't afford it, and I informed her that she wouldn't be responsible for that cost.  I plan to talk to my attorney in a few days (granted the BPs still seem interested in us -- BM did e-mail us late last night reassuring us how excited she was so that's good).  I will ask my attorney lots of questions, including, when do we actually start moving forward.  It seems to me that for now we just keep getting to know each other but we probably wait several more months before really getting into the legal part of it all.

Congrats with caution.  7 weeks is really early.  Has she been to a doctor yet?  Definitely have your attorney talk to them and do a full vetting, that is why you hire an attorney.  Also you will need to know the laws of both her state and yours.  What you may or may not be able to help with financially, how long after birth do they sign the TPR, etc.  IF this is the match, welcome to the world of waiting.  We still have 4 months to go until our BM is due and we matched what feels like forever ago and that was at 13 weeks.

When we video chatted, she showed us a picture of the first u/s so she's been to a doctor. I've read some AZ law and it seems actually pretty good compared to some states, but of course I'll have my attorney check everything out.  Cautiously optimistic..and yea, I'm sure it will feel like an eternity waiting!

  • Who knows- maybe being matched with you so early will be a positive thing for her.  She will have you in mind as parents for the entire pregnancy and it could ease the strain of making the adoption plan on her.

I pray it all works out smoothly for you!  Another cautious congrats from me :-)

  • Congratulations, that is very exciting.  7 weeks is pretty early, I don't mean at all to sound negative but I'm surprised they gave her an ultrasound already.  Cautious congratulations, I would definately talk to your attorney and see what they think.  As PP said, perhaps this will be a long match that will help the expectant parents' to be comfortable with their decision.  Smile

At least in Texas, most docs will to a vaginal u/s (the Wand of Discomfort, as it's called in my circle of friends) to confirm pregnancy (and make first estimated due date) and to give you pics of your little bean.

I think it's kind of overkill, since it's not like u/s are that reliable as far as estimating when baby will come, and it's not like they can do anything for the baby, but whateva! If insurance covers it, why not?

Good to know!!  In our area the earliest they normally do them is about 8 weeks so I was just wondering.  That's wonderful, it's always exciting to see pics of the little one.  Smile
