I know this is pretty sad but I am going to be starting a workout class on Monday, Wednesday, & Friday. I start next week. I have never worked out regularly (and you can tell). So I am out of my element.
For those of you who do or have done it regularly: What am I in for? I know to expect to be sore, but what else? What are some things that have kept you motivated?
Also, what things or if anything will help me be successful?
Any advice appreciated.
The workout class is at a local church. It's $3 per class and comes with free child care. One of my good friends from high school (whom happens to be my hairdresser also) told me about it. She has been doing it for more than a year. She told me to be ready for a great workout. They do cardio and weight training.
Re: Help: First time working out
First, good for you mama! You are taking the first step. So important to keep yourself moving. I know it can be very intimidating (okay, extremely intimidating) to start a new class, especially if you've never done it before. I used to teach all kinds of group fitness classes and I know that if the teacher is any good, she will make you feel comfortable.
Definitely arrive at least ten minutes early so you can tell the instructor you are new, and she can help you get all the gear set up. Do you need to bring any equipment with you or do they provide it?
Remember that there will be people of all levels of fitness in the class so go with what you are comfortable with, especially at first. As you continue on for a few weeks, you will need to get a bit out of your comfort zone in order to improve. You will be sore. Absolutely. You will be discovering muscles you never knew you had. If you continue to go however, this will get easier to handle with time.
I love endorphins and hope you fall in love with them too. They are addicting! Such grea "me" time, and I'll bet you'll love being around the other women. Keep us posted!
I agree with Lolly about sticking with it. They will get easier and you will be so proud of yourself for the progress!
Also, don't worry if you can't keep up or look silly (like I do at zumba!). Everyone else is too concerned with keeping up themselves to be paying attention to you. Even though I still look silly (I have no rhythm!) I try to get a spot in the front of my class. Being up front keeps me motivated to push myself and since the room has a mirror, I can check my form easier if no one is blocking me.
