When LO was sick and had oxygen issues, was that detected at the pedi or hospital? Lucas is sick. Has fever and bad cold and cough. Seems to struggle breathing but more so from being stuffed. How do they check their oxygen levels??

On a side note, hope your first two days back were ok!

  • They checked his stats as soon as I got to the hospital since I said he was having breathing issues. His oxygen saturation was 89% when it should be 97 and above. It was very noticeable by looking at him. His chest was retracting and I could see the top of his rib cage when he took a breath. You could tell he was working hard to breathe and his eyes looked panicked. It was terrible. The pedi was also able check it a her office at his follow up.

I hope he is better soon. Keep a close eye on him, it happened really fast with A.

And thanks. I've been swamped and I miss LO a lot.

Thanks for the info...I have to find a new Pedi but thats a whole new thread!  It seems he just has a cold, and it's viral.  She did not check his breathing but did sort of I guess since she listened to his lungs and stuff.  He is just SO congested yet pouring out boogies at the same time.  He is asleep with the cool humidifier and I am anticipating another rough night.  Did you find anything special helped him feel better?  We are currentyl doing a motrin/tylenol rotation to keep the fever down and for his comfort.

  • I'm glad he's not bad enough to be having oxygen issues, that's good news.

Unfortunately, we just kind of had to wait it out.  Sitting in a steamy bathroom with the hot shower running sometimes gave him temporary relief.  We ended up with a prescription for a nebulizer and albuterol medication.  Recently, we've had to switch to Atrovent because the albuterol was not working as well.  The nebulizer is really the only thing that gives him some relief.

  • How is he doing today, hlc? Did he have a hard night?

Lab, I hope you enjoy your weekend! Countdown to Labor Day!

  • Go figure. He slept the longest he's ever slept his entire life. 8.5 hours. 7 to 3:45. I of course laid awake from 2:30 to 3:45 staring at the monitor to watch his back rise for breathing. Figures! He is super congested and has a phlegm cough. Poor baby!
