Houston Babies

Recommend your high chair.

What high chair do you have? What do you like/dislike about it? Also, how old was your baby when you started to use it?

Thanks!

Re: Recommend your high chair.

  • We have the Chicco Polly.  I have no complaints.  We started using it with both kids around 6 months.

  • I highly highly recommend getting a seat that straps onto a regular dining room chair. We registered for the full-size Graco Meal Time high chair and I hate it. It is my one registry regret. It has a ginormous footprint. I ended up buying a Fisher Price Healthy Care Booster and love it so much more.

  • We have a strap-on seat as well as a high chair.  Our high chair is the wooden Eddie Bauer one.  I like its neutral colors and the fact that it's not plastic.  However we do use the strap-on seat much more.  I do like having two seating options, just for when my mom friends come over and need a place to put their little ones.

  • we have the Chicco and I hate it..  It was fine when we did purees, but not that he is self feeding it's a PITA to clean..  We have the cheap FP one tha straps to the chair..  I like it much better...  It's super easy to clean and the tray is small enough to put in the dish washer...  We use the Chicco because we sit at the counter to eat and it's tall...  If we didn't have an island I would put it on Craig's List and never look back...
  • this is what I have: https://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?st=2002&e=product&pid=43913

and I HIGHLY recommend it.  It doesn't take up extra room that a full size highchair does and it grows with your kid.

  • i have the svan and looove it. it cleans so easy b/c it's all wood and no small nooks or cranies. also, it's compact (important in my bungalow) with a very small footprint. the chair is designed to be used for many stages (thank you, Swedes!) from infant to teenager- yes teenager!

you can use the tray but you can also take it off and push it right up to the table. it's exactly the right height for a standard table and the way it is designed the tray is not what holds the baby in. my only complaint is that it is just front heavy enough that if Truitt tries to climb up it, it will tip over. however, i don't think there is a chair out there that is made to have a kid climb up it.... more a kid issue than a chair issue IMO.

you can buy cushions and they are machine washable. however, we rarely even use them...

i got mine at Right Start

all i can say is all my friends who have the peg and chicco chairs with the plastic seats complain all the time about how hard the seams are to clean and that you actually never get the food out of the small cracks.

  • We have a Geuther wooden high chair.

Likes - the adjustable seat height; the fact that it works quite nicely as a chair at our table when the tray is removed; light weight; modern styling; small footprint, not bulky or overly padded; little fuss; when on sale at Amazon, the price is good

Dislikes - sometimes we wish for the uncomparable cleaning features of plastic - nothing can be scrubbed or put in the shower like a plastic chair - still, this no fuss chair is easy to clean, just not as easy as if the same design was in plastic. :)

i respectfully disagree, having hosed my wooden chair off in the front yard more than once Stick out tongue

  • I guess I need to get the hose out, b/c I love everything else about the chair - there have just been times when hosing it off would have helped. Thanks for the tip!
