Feeling the babies or not?

I turned 17 weeks yesterday. I read this is around the time I could start feeling them move (however, this IS my first pregnancy). Although I can't say I've specifically noticed the "fluttering" or the "popcorn popping" feelings, once in a while I'll get what you ladies refer to as "lighting crotch" and occasionally I'll get like two quick jabbing feelings in my abdomen or my back. Is this the babies moving???

Re: Feeling the babies or not?

  • At 17 weeks, I was just starting to feel "fluttering" and something that felt like I had some gas haha. It's definitely normal to not feel anything significant for several more weeks! The jabbing in your abdomen sounds maybe like round ligament pain though. The babies are certainly not big enough to jab you yet.

  • I'm not sure. With me, I kept waiting and waiting to feel them, but didn't feel anything that couldn't be explained away as something else until around 22 weeks or so. It became obvious when I was at an MFM appoinment, I felt a little something and could simultaneously see a baby kicking in the ultrasound. Give it a few more weeks and by then it should be unmistakable.
  • Between about 16-17 weeks I had a few twinges that, like pp, could have been explained away as something else. Then at around 18 and a half weeks, I was spooning DH in bed and I thought he farted on me. I was so disgusted and annoyed until I realized that his butt wasn't anywhere near where I was feeling it and then I felt it again. That was the first time it was unmistakeable.

  • I don't have twins but I just wanted to say that I didn't feel DD (she's now 2) until about 23 weeks along. The only thing that comes close to describing what it feels like when a baby moves is a muscle twitch in your belly. GL and congrats on your twins!
  • Don't feel bad! I have triplets, and felt NOTHING until about 20 weeks. And even then it was the smallest little bubble or gurgle...it could easily be mistaken for gas. However, 21-22 weeks, I can see lumps and bumps coming out of my stomach as well as a distinctive kick/punch feeling. I'm 24 weeks now...today I feel like they are literally clawing their way out, where as two-three days ago I didn't feel them all day. I think placentation has a lot to do with it, as does how much space they have. Relax, it will happen :-) !!!
