OMG- WWIFV do?? DE question

Umm, they will let me split the cycle with the donor I wanted since she hasn't started her pre-testing.  She is not a proven donor so obviously we don't know how many eggs she will get.  The first recipient gets the first 5-7 mature eggs and then I'd get them. If there aren't enough mature eggs, I'd be cancelled and refunded.    The ER would be in October.

Should I go for it?  It's a little risky but maybe that is better than picking someone I don't want?  Can't reach DH for an opinion.

Re: OMG- WWIFV do?? DE question

  • Is it also split cost? If so, I say DO IT! She was the donor you loved, who looked like you with similar heritage. I think it would be hard to pass that up. How old is she? I think that might factor in too. the younger girls seem to get the bumper crops.

  • She's 21. A baby..  The cost is the same whether it is split or not because they are only guaranteeing you 5-7 mature eggs. If they don't have them, I get refunded.  My meds and monitoring are covered by my insurance so that part is fine even if I get cancelled.  I would only lose time and time to find a new donor afterwards.

  • at 21, I say go for it. I have seen proven donors that usually get 20 or more eggs have an off cycle and only get 7 to 10 because she is younger there is a better chance for her to really produce.

Edited because 710 eggs would probably kill her, and we don't want that!

  • Wow!  I say - the stars are aligning!  I don't know the right questions to ask pertaining to DE, but I do know how much you wanted this donor and it sure sounds to me like this may be your lucky day and quite possibly the beginning of your happy ending.  Good luck with your decision - and congrats on the good news!

This is what I think too.  If there is no other donor that measures up then you would probably feel regret if you didn't try.  I think the only thing to consider is how emotionally beat up you would feel if for some reason she didn't produce 14 total eggs.  Would you be okay pushing the process back a couple of months? When do you have to be done for your insurance to still cover?  Best of luck, Sweets.  We are all pulling for you.

I "should" have this insurance for the first 12 weeks in 2013.  So I should be able to get a 2nd cycle in if I get cancelled. Obviously it isn't ideal to be cancelled and I will be screaming bloody murder if it happens but if I am just sitting here anyway waiting for someone I want, I guess it sort of the same thing. There's no way to know if someone I want will come along really soon or not.

I would probably go for it just because I think it is really important to get the donor that you wanted. It might delay your ET further if she can't get enough eggs, but you may regret not trying with your ideal donor.

(((huge hugs))) I hope everything works out!

Thanks ladies for your input. I reached DH and he said let's roll the dice!

WOO HOO!!! I know how bummed you were about losing this donor. So glad you are going to go for it! GOOD LUCK!!!

  • I would go for it - there doesn't seem to be much downside from a financial standpoint since you would be cancelled and refunded if there aren't enough mature eggs. The potential pitfall seems to be mostly emotional if you wind up not getting embryos to transfer but since this is the donor you were set on from the start, it seems worth the risk to me. GL!
