Q about leaking fluid

Forgive me if this is a stupid question...I'm a FTM so everything makes me jumpy, haha.

Early this afternoon I was getting a pedi and all of a sudden I felt like my underwear was wet. There wasn't a gush or a pop or anything like that...I just noticed that out of nowhere I felt wet down there (and I didn't have to pee at all at the time, either). I hadn't put on a liner or anything, so I was really hoping it was my imagination, or that if it WAS wet that it wouldn't be enough to soak my shorts or get on the chair. Luckily my shorts were still dry and so was the chair. By the time I got home though, my shorts were a little wet (not soaked, but definitely a little wet) and my underwear was soaked. Later around 7 I was walking with my husband and sister and felt that randomly wet feeling again, but I also had to go to the bathroom. I went and it was the same thing as earlier -- underwear was very wet, shorts were a tiny bit wet but not much.

I REALLY don't think it was pee, it was entirely clear. It was really watery though, so I don't think it was mucus at all. Is it possible that my water is leaking slowly instead of just breaking and coming out quickly? I haven't had any contractions or anything. Just whatever that fluid is. Should I just wait and see what happens, or should I call my doctor? I've felt the baby move since the second time I noticed that wet feeling, so I think he's fine. I just hate calling my OBs office...I always feel like I'm being over dramatic when I do.

So should I call or wait?

Re: Q about leaking fluid

  • I wear a panty liner because it actually shows the color of the discharge vs not wearing one. I was convinced my discharge was water so i started wearing liners and now it's yellow.

  • I would call. With my first it was a slow leak, never had the big gush.

  • i had an issue with the same sort of thing the other day.  Basically if you aren't getting more fluid after the initial "gush"  then it's some sort of discharge, not your water (I've had two false alarms because of the same issue!  GL!

  • I had this same thing happen to me since Saturday. It's just occasional, not consistent. I had an appointment with my midwife today so she tested the fluid. She said that it was unusually clear and wet, but looked through a microscope and no amniotic fluid. My discharge has just become very liquid and clear. I still get the mucous stuff too. I now am going to wear panty liners because getting my underwear and pants wet while out and about is not fun.
