My DD was diagnosed with Infantile Spasms back in April and has been on Vigabatrin (Sabril) since mid-April and Prednisolone since mid-June.
Within a few weeks my DD was choking on her food (farley bisquits, cookies) that she had never had a problem before. We even had to call 911.
The children's hospital in my area (Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario) has put DD on a strict soft diet and is sending her for something called a Feeding Survey in September. She'll be 15 months by then.
My question is has anyone ever gone through this?? Are there side effects we should know about afterwards?
Thanks

I'm not sure if this is exactly what you'll be experiencing, but our DS did have an "oral motor evaluation". Basically, he met with two speech therapists and a nutritionist. They watched how he ate to make sure he was moving his mouth properly and was eating safely. They also evaluated his diet to make sure it was well-rounded. There were no side effects since they were just watching him eat.
It was actually a really good experience. I was pleasantly surprised.
Oh, also, our oral motor evaluation was scheduled because his barium swallow (VFSS) showed that he had oropharyngeal dysphagia. He is on thickened liquids now and will have another VFSS in January.
He didn't have any side effects at all from the barium.
