XP 3-6 Feeding Issues

My ff baby, who is already on Alimentum, was doing a great job with bottles. She had been having some trouble and was on rice cereal, Prevacid, and Reglan. We stopped all of that because it seemed to be messing her up. She start eating like she had before, 5-6 oz bottles every 3-4 hrs. Now she's having horrible issues even finishing a 3 oz bottle. Yesterday she only took 23 oz so she woke up at 5:30 to have a bottle. She took 3 oz, stopped to burp, and would not eat anymore. Last night we started giving her the Prevacid again, hoping it would help, but she doesn't act like she's refluxing. She just would rather sit up and look around than eat. Suggestions?

Re: XP 3-6 Feeding Issues

  • I don't have any advice, but I am going through a similar situation right now.  My LO regularly drank 5-6 oz every 3-4 hrs during the day, sleeps through the night.  But since Monday she will refuse milk after our burp break... Only getting 3 oz at a time.  If we skip the burp break, she drinks about 4 to 5 tops, and gags to show she is done with the bottle... I'm hoping it's just a phase.... Our dr said expect her to drink 2oz per pound, so she is getting just a little less than this this week....

  • What size nipples are you using?  We had this same issue and it turned out that she needed a faster nipple flow.  She was wearing herself out trying to eat out of the slow flow nipple and would fall asleep after only half of a bottle.  When I moved to the next size (Dr. Browns #2) she went right back to eating full bottles (4-5 oz).

She's already on the medium flow nipple, and, to the best of my knowledge, Medela doesn't make fast flow nipples.

That doesn't make sense bf babies eat off slower than slow flow bottles for their who first year and don't wear themselves out. And I've eff, bf with some supplementing and now ebf so I do understand all sides of it.
Op if your lo is happy what's the problem?? My oldest eff never took more than 4oz at a time until he was well over six months a grew into a happy healthy child. My middle son never more than 4oz when I worked and we supplemented and is a happy healthy toddler now. Not all babies eat that much and if you force it it causes tummy problems.

She's not happy. She screams her head off.  She has stopped gaining weight. She went from taking 5-6 oz every 3-4 hrs to fighting with her to take 3 oz. I'm not a moron; I think I know my baby well enough to tell there's something wrong!
