September 2012 Moms

So hungry but afraid to eat.

This heartburn has gotten totally out of hand. I ate a brownie this morning and had heartburn. I just had a peanut butter sandwich and I'm still hungry but terrified of eating more and getting the feeling of puke in my throat again. I was up with it most of last night. No fun. Any suggestions? I'm taking a daily probiotic and had it slightly under control. I switched brands and the new one wasn't cutting it so I switched back last night. I hope tonight's pill puts me back in good standing.

  • I take Tagament every day. Then fill in with TUMS when it gets really bad.

  • Two things that people have told me to try that have worked are coke and milk with honey.  Drinking a coke (real coke, not diet and not pepsi) seems to get rid of my heartburn right away.  I was just recently told to try milk with honey in it and that has worked too, but I have only tried that one a couple of times.

Hmmm I thought coke would make it worse but I may try that. If it's not ant better by monday I'll be calling the doc for more advice!

  • Ugh, I feel for you. Sometimes it feels like if I even have a sip of water, the baby kicks it right back up with a side of acid. Thankfully, I only spend most of the day feeling like I just puked rather than actually puking.

Good luck with the other remedies!

I've had this issue quite a bit, the only thing that works is Zantac 150 mg twice a day.

This is me exactly.  Zantac (well, the generic version from Target) is my new best friend.

yeah, I looked at her like she was crazy when she told me, but I thought it was worth trying and it has been great!

  • Zantac 150 is my go to...it's been a rough few weeks.

  • chocolate seems to aggravate mine, so I would stay away from brownies.  Also sometimes white bread makes it upset.  I can usually calm mine with a ginormous glass of milk, and I have heard that an apple will clear it up some as well.

I get it pretty bad but I can keep it under control at night with some milk before bed and some tums next to my pillow

  • I've heard vinegar really helps with heartburn.  Mine was always under control with tums, but its no longer working.  I'm going to dilute some vinegar with water and chug away tonight and see if it works.  I'm willing to try anything at this point.

  • For me, it has been tums and a glass of milk. I have tried to start drinking milk with every meal- especially supper.

Sleeping propped up in a lounger is also starting to work a bit. But it's not the most comfortable position and my back usually starts to hurt.

  • I eat Tums all of the time, and actually I find that the heartburn is better with a full tummy--seems to hold the acid down.

Same here.  Dr recommended this after she heard how many tums I was packing away each day.

  • My doctor told me to take Mylanta, the liquid stuff.  It coats the throat and seems to help me out a lot.
  • I was using Zantac to keep mine at bay but I switched to Prevacid once a day around 25 weeks and it's been a lifesaver. I don't know what I'd do without it. I don't even need Tums anymore.

I second this. I am just sad that I didn't realize this 50 bottles of Tums ago!!
