I've been realllly unhappy at my job for quite a while and desperate to make a move. There are two issues: I really don't want to stay in my field anymore yet think it will be difficult to transition to something else. I want to quit every day! The second issue: I need to find something closer to home. Can't commute 3+ hours a day to work anymore. I'm also looking for a company based in NJ because we have mandatory fertility coverage, and it looks like we may need to go that route.
So, I finally find a VERY good company, 20 minutes from my house based in NJ! I send them mental vibes to call me...call me...call me...and they do! (Unfortunately, it's still in my field, but I am willing to suck it up for a short commute and fertility coverage.) The first thing the recruiter tells me is that they are moving...20 minute commute will be an hour commute. And then he tells me the salary range for the position is $40K less than I am making! Noooooooo.....
I am so bummed. I feel like my dream of a 20 minute commute and baby #2 just got quashed in one 5 minute phone call. I want to cry.
Re: Job vent! Blah.
I am so sorry.
I am working for the same company as I was pre-Oliver, but I took a job in a different department making less because the hours were much more flexible and I can WAH on days when O is sick or has doctor's appointments. We just bought a new house so my 55 minute commute will now be 25 minutes-so much better.
I should add that I like the work I am doing now less than before I had O, but the trade-offs are well worth it.
Good luck finding something you like...what field are you in? I have had a lot of cold calls from recruiters lately (Chemical Engineer-Pharmaceutical Manufacturing)
I'm so sorry! I can totally commiserate, especially on the wanting to quit everyday thing. I am currently contemplating quitting my career and just starting from scratch this January because I am just getting more and more miserable. Sigh. Hopefully something good comes up for both of us soon.

I work in business development for an architecture/engineering consulting firm. This position was obviously much more junior, but it wasn't evident from their listing. Waaaaah! I do have an interview next week with another firm, but I'm not as excited about it.
I;m so sorry. Staying at a place that sucks just drains you. I hope that something pops up for you soon though!
