DS is EBF, but I need to start transitioning him to formula during the day. I'm going out of town for Labor Day and want to leave DS with MIL for an afternoon. I'd love for him to be on formula so I'm not wrestling the pump (I don't have much of a letdown for the pump). Long term, I'm job hunting, so I want to get him on formula during the day so when I do get a job we aren't putting him cold turkey on formula. But for now, I just want to replace the late afternoon feed.
For those who FF, how much is your LO taking per feeding these days? How long does that generally last them? In particular, how does the late afternoon feed go? Any tips from other moms who have transitioned their LOs to part time formula feeding?
Re: Help with establishing daytime formula feeding
When I started drying up I slowly transitioned DD to formula by first mixing it with my milk and that slowly transitioning with adding less milk each next time. I didnt have a single issue!
She now takes 7oz first bottle in the monring, takes then 3 6Oz bottles about every 4-4.5 hrs and then her last bottle before bedtime is 7oz + 2 scoops of oatmeal so it is close to 8oz. Sometime she'll eat it all sometimes she won't.
For now she's still inconsistant with solids though and there are still days she doesn't have any solids at all. But even if she does, the formula intake hasn't changed at all.
HTH!
DS takes 7.5 oz. every 4- 4 1/2 hours. If I give him too much he will spit up all the excess, and if he's not getting enough he gets hungry sooner than usual. He eats *around* 7:30, 11:30, 4:00, and 8:30.
Sorry, no advice for the transition, I had to stop BF completely. Not sure how that goes partially...I feel like everything I read said skipping one feeding affects your milk for the other feedings. But I did hear of some moms who it worked fine for, so I guess it's different for everyone.
